Lady Tigers’ offense erupts in win

PROCTORVILLE — From 1935-46 was considered “The Swing Era” in music.
Tuesday was the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers swing era.
Ironton’s bats were really swinging as they got 23- hits en route to a 19-0 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Fairland Lady Dragons.
Kenzie Cremeens and Peighton Rowe were the Julianne Hough of the batter’s box as Cremeens went 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and four runs batted in while Rowe was 4-4 with two RBI.
Rowe also got the pitching win with a four-hitter as she struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Taiya Hamlet was 3-3, Aley Carmon 2-4 with a double, triple and two RBI, Demi Sands 3-4 with three doubles and two RBI, Shay Cox 2-3 and an RBI and M’Kenzie McMaster 2-4 with a home run and four RBI.
Ironton (10-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first when Cremeens tripled and scored on an error.
The Lady Tigers came back to score twice in the second.
With one out, Hamlet singled and McMaster doubled her home. An out later, Cox singled home the run.
The lead went to 10-0 in the third.
Cremeens singled, moved up on an error and scored on Carmon’s double. Hamlet had an RBI single and then McMaster slammed a two-run homer.
Cox singled, Rowe walked and Riley Schreck doubled home a run. Cremeens then doubled to drive in two.
Ironton kept the offense going in the fourth inning to lead 13-0.
Ruth Paholsky and Hamlet singled and McMaster hit into a fielder’s choice. Hamlet scored on a wild pitch and Sands doubled home McMaster. Rowe singled to score Sands.
The Lady Tigers capped off the scoring with a six-run fifth inning.
Cremeens singled and Carmon tripled for a run. Hamlet walked and Sands doubled them home. Cox walked and Rowe had an RBI single. Sophie Caines walked to load the bases and Cremeens doubled home two more runs but Caines was thrown out at home.
On Wednesday, Ironton visits South Point and Fairland is at Coal Grove.
