Ironton, South Point split pair

SOUTH POINT — The Ironton Fighting Tigers got a big win, then let a big inning spoil a bid for a second big win.
Ironton got a run in the 12th inning to edge the South Point Pointers 5-4 in a suspended game on Wednesday. The Fighting Tigers then had a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the sixth when it all came went south.
South Point scored six runs in the sixth and beat the Fighting Tigers 11-6 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
In the 12th inning of the suspended game, Joel Blankenship led off with a walk and Garrett Carrico sacrificed him to second. Kyle Kleiman got an infield hit to put runners on the corners and Dane Wilson walked.
Larry Morris hit a ground ball that was misplayed for an error allowing Blankenship to score.
In the regularly scheduled game, Ironton (11-5, 8-4) scored four runs in the first inning.
Carrico singled, Brycen Thomas walked and Dane Wilson reached on an error.
Kyle Kleinman hit a sacrifice fly, Jacob Koerper walked and Morris cleared the bases with a double.
South Point (13-6, 7-5) got a run in the second when Drew Smith singled and Elijah Adams, Tanner Hall and Brody Blackwell all walked.

Ironton got the run back in the third on a single by Gage Salyers and Koerper’s double.
But the Pointers got three in the bottom of the inning.
Jonathan Henline, Logan Rose and Max Tabor all singled for a run. Logan Rose grounded out to score a run and Smith singled home Tabor.
The Pointers tied the game in the fourth when Hall walked, stole second, went to third on a fly out and scored on Logan Wade’s sacrifice fly.
Ironton took a 6-5 lead in the sixth.
Koerper doubled, went to third on an error and scored when Ethan Duncan hit into a double play.
But in the bottom of the sixth, Blackwell and Wade walked and moved up on an error. A wild pitch scored Blackwell and Henline’s triple scored Wade. Rose was safe on an error, Tabor singled, Smith walked, Elijah Adams hit into a fielder’s choice, Hall singled and a wild pitch scored the final run.
Ironton goes to Ashland, Ky., on Thursday and hosts Rock Hill on Friday. South Point visits Coal Grove on Friday.
