PEDRO — It was Dione Warwick who sang, “Walk On By.” The Rock Hill Redmen were signing right along on Wednesday.
The Redmen used four walks in the seventh inning to score the winning run as they beat the Crooksville Ceramics 4-3 in the Division III sectional tournament.
Crooksville pitchers stuck out 11 but walked nine batters including four in the seventh inning.
Conversely, Rock Hill was guilty of five errors that led to all three runs being unearned.
Pitcher Cody Lewis allowed just two hits, struck out four and walked six.
“Cody pitched well and even with the five errors we made some good defensive plays behind him when we had to. We just waited them out and took advantage of their mistakes,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Littleral.
Rock Hill (14-6) will visit Coal Grove at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the sectional finals.
The game was scoreless until each team got a run in the fourth.
In the top of the fourth, Gavan Rodgers reached on an error, Hayden Hamilton walked with two outs and Rodgers scored a throwing error.
Rock Hill tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Landon Smith reached on an error, Jaret Bacorn walked and Mason Darby was safe on a dropped pop up that allowed Smith to score.
The Redmen took the lead with two runs in the sixth.
Kyle Stanfield singled, Seth Nichols walked and Darby delivered a two-run double.
Crooksville tied the game in the top of the seventh with one out.
Nick Headley walked, Trey White was safe on an error, both moved up on a ground out and Landon Hinkle was safe on a throwing error as both runners scored.
The Redmen — who had just three hits — then got the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jake Blagg walked, stole second, Cody Lewis sacrificed him to third and with two outs Kaleb Kidd and Smith walked to load the bases.
Landon Hinkle then came on in relief of Headley and walked Stanfield to force home the winning run.
