4 individuals, relay team get regional berth

CHILLICOTHE — It was four and four on day one.

Four individuals and a relay team qualified for the Division III regional track meet during the first day of competition at Southeastern High School.

The top four finishers in each finals event qualifies for the regional meet on Wednesday at Lancaster Fairfield Union.

Coal Grove Hornets’ Kimo Baldwin was fourth in the discus with a toss of 142-03 and advanced to the regional meet.

Chesapeake Panthers’ Cecil Fletcher was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20-06.5 and earned a trip to the regional.

Rock Hill Redmen pole vaulter Seth Baker was third as he cleared 12-feet to advance along with the Panthers’ Brady Wilson who was fourth with an 11-6 height.

Rock Hill’s Corey Shope was fifth at 11-6 and Chesapeake’s Kamren Harless sixth at 11-feet.

In the 4×800-meter relay, Rock Hill finished third as Victor Aguilera, Ethan Miller, Jasson Aguilera and Logan Boggs ran an 8:59.06 time to get a trip to the regional meet.

Coal Grove’s quartet of Dylan French, Aaron Music, Nathaniel Brumett and Colton Kuhn was seventh at 9:25.45. The other events were preliminaries as athletes tried to advance to Saturday’s finals. The top eight finishers in each event qualify for Saturday’s finals.

In the 110-meter high hurdles, Coal Grove’s Jed Whitworth was third at 17.76 and advanced to the finals. Green Bobcats’ Zach Huffman was fifth at 17.89.

In the 100-meter dash, Fletcher was fourth with an 11.94 time. Green’s Tyler Darnell was sixth at 12.08 to reach the finals.

Green’s quartet of Zach Huffman, Tyler Thorton, Aaron Johnson and Darnell was third  (1:38.13) to place third in the 4×200 preliminaries. Coal Grove’s foursome of Wyatt Boggs, Nathan Harmon, Kyle Sites and Joey Workman ran a 1:38.50 and finished seventh.

Advancing in the 4×100 relay was Coal Grove’s Austin Stormes, Sites, Boggs and Workman who ran a 45.82 and finished second. Green’s Alec Smith, Thorton, Johnson and Darnell was sixth at 46.82.

Fletcher won the 400-meter dash prelims with a 52.16 time to advance. Also, moving on are Sites — who was seventh at 54.40 — and Chesapeake’s Josh Ramey — eighth at 54.65. Ramey was also eighth in the 200 meters at 24.62 seconds.

The Panthers’ 4×400 relay team of David Dotson, Gabriel Johnson, Ramey and Harless as third with a 3:39.32 qualifying time. Coal Grove’s relay of Sites, Brumett, Workman and Music was fifth at 3:42.09 while Rock Hill’s group of Gabe Kidd, Cameron Barnette, Victor Aguilera and Miller was eighth at 3:47.05.

In the 300 hurdles, Harless was fifth at 44.17 and Green’s Zach Huffman was sixth at 44.99.

For the girls, Lady Hornets’ Sarah Cecil reached Saturday’s finals as she ran an 18.30 in the 100-meter hurdles and was seventh. Cecil was fifth (51.99) in the 300 hurdles to advance in that event.

Qualifying in the 100-meter dash was Green’s Kaylynn Blizzard who was fifth at 13.97 and Coal Grove’s Emily Compliment who was sixth with a 14.11 time. Portsmouth Lynsey Shipley was first at 13.0.

Blizzard advanced in the 200 meters with a 28.73 time to place eighth.

Coal Grove’s 4×100 relay team of Lauren Meyer, Lauren Fields, Jaida Smith and Compliment was seventh at 54.68.

In the 4×400 relay, Compliment, Cecil, Smith and Lauren Holliday were third at 4:29.81 to make the finals.
