Numerous officeholders to participate, tickets on sale

The first Lawrence County Domestic Violence Task Force Lip Sync Battle is quickly approaching, and is shaping up to be a very fun evening.

“We needed a fundraiser for the shelter, and decided this would be a good way to do that,” Elaine Payne, shelter board member, said. “We’re required to have a 20 percent community match, which, right now, we’re not getting, so we had to come up with some events to raise money.”

The lip sync battle is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, July 22 in the Ironton High School Auditorium, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Set to compete in the battle include Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Andy Ballard, Lawrence County Commissioner DeAnna Holliday, Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith, Lawrence County Clerk of Courts Mike Patterson, Lawrence County Treasurer Stephen Burcham, the Ironton Police Department, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s office and more.

Also part of the show, but not part of the lip sync battle, is the Paramount Players performing musical selections from their upcoming summer show, “All Shook Up.”

“We contacted the CAO, the department of job and family services and other agencies, so it’s a lot of agencies working together to put this on,” Payne said. “Everyone is on board and it seems like it will be a fun night for everyone to enjoy.”

Tickets for the event are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and can be purchased by calling the Payne or Elizabeth Bell at the shelter at 740-532-7111, or at the Ironton City Center between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday from June 28 through July 20.

All proceeds from the event go toward the Lawrence County Domestic Violence Task Force.
