Walking for a good cause

It is estimated that one in three Ohioans over the age of 65 will suffer a fall this year, and falls are the leading cause of injury-related death among the state’s seniors.

On Sept. 22, an event at the Ironton Farmers Market will address this problem.

10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and will feature vendors addressing the needs of seniors. But the highlight will be the course set up for participants to use as part of the falls prevention awareness walk.

The goal of the event, part of a statewide effort by Steady U Ohio, is to get at least 4,000 Ohioans to walk at least one mile in the name of the cause.

In 2015, Lawrence County led the state in number of steps taken in the event. We urge everyone to get out and take part in the action to address this issue impacting our seniors.
