WILLOW WOOD — Okay, who wants to carry the ball?

Evidently, about everyone as the Chesapeake Panthers had 13 different runners carry the ball as they beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 38-0 on Friday.

The Panthers ballcarriers combined for 248 rushing yards on 34 carries to remain unbeaten in three games.

Quarterback Austin Browning led the Panthers with 50 yards on two carries. Kamren Harless and Tyler Eddy ran for 40 yards each.

Chesapeake’s defense held the Vikings to 46 total yards — all on the ground — and only one first down.

“Symmes Valley is better and they played hard. But we established our line on both sides of the ball and when you do that you usually do well,” said Panthers’ coach Andy Clark.

“We’re still young at the skilled positions and you have inconsistencies when that happens.”

Derik Brace ran eight times for 33 yards to lead the Vikings.

“Our effort was there. I’m proud of our effort. We just didn’t execute and they did. They’re a good team. They’re a big, fast, experienced team,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.

Chesapeake (3-0) scored midway through the first quarter on a 44-yard jaunt by quarterback Austin Browning. Dalton Nida kicked the conversion.

The Panthers used a nice punt return to set up a 21-yard field goal by Nida with 2:01 left in the first quarter and it was 10-0.

Chesapeake blew the game open with 21 points in the second quarter.

Kamren Harless ran 17 yards for a touchdown with 7:05 on the clock and it was 17-0.

Evan Burcham then had a scoop-and-score as he returned a fumble 44 yards for a touchdown less than a minute later.

“We made them pay for their turnovers and that helped,” said Clark. “We took advantage of our field position but that starts with the defense and the defense did a good job.”

Harless scored with 1:44 left in the half on a 55-yard punt return.

The only score in the second half came on a 37-yard run by backup running back Carson Nida who raced 37 yards for a score with 27 seconds to go in the third quarter.

Chesapeake plays at Gallipolis next Friday.
