With the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey still being felt and the impact of Hurricane Irma now becoming evident, the need for assistance to the areas hit by the storms are all too clear.

Which is why it is good to know that Americans across the nation have chipped in to help with the recovery efforts.

Here in Lawrence County, there have been several initiatives to bring needed supplies to the impacted areas.

In Hanging Rock, BWC and Prestera trucking companies have been collecting items to fill box trucks for relief efforts.

The first truck left for Texas last week and the companies plan to continue collecting donations and send as many as possible.

In Rome Township, staff and residents of the Wyngate at RiversEdge senior living community brought a bus to the trucking companies and loaded supplies onto the truck.

At the Lawrence County Department of Job and Family Services, workers also collected for relief efforts, and students at Fairland West Elementary and Ironton High School have done the same.

These are just a few of those in our area working to help.

Natural disasters can strike anywhere and it is assuring to know that many in our area will gladly go out of their way to bring aid to those, whom they have never met, who are in need.
