SOUTH POINT — The Coal Grove Hornets worked fast.
The Hornets rolled up 43 points in the first half and made it stand up as they blanked the South Point Pointers in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
The Hornets (3-1, 1-0) racked up 324 total years with 258 coming on the ground. Nate Harmon celebrated his first game at running back with five carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns while Kyle Sites ran five times for 69 yards and two scores.
Quarterback Cory Borders was 3-of-4 passing for 66 yards including a touchdown strike to Aaron Music.
The Hornets scored three minutes into the game when Kimo Baldwin recovered a bad snap on a punt in the end zone for a touchdown. Evan Holmes kicked the conversion and it was 7-0.
Coal Grove got a safety to lead 9-0 and then Sites ran 4 yards for a touchdown and it was 16-0.
Harmon got loose on a 62-yard gallop for a touchdown with 1:30 left in the third quarter and it was 23-0.
Sites wasn’t to be outdone as he ran 56 yards for a touchdown less than four minutes into the second quarter and it was 30-0.
Harmon answered with a 54-yard scoring jaunt and it was 36-0.
The final Coal Grove touchdown came on a 9-yard pass from Borders to Music with 4:34 left in the half.
The Coal Grove backups finished the game.
Next Friday the Hornets host Chesapeake and South Point entertains Ironton.
