FLATWOODS, Ky. — As famed college football announcer Keith Jackson would say, Whoooa Nellie!”
That was the phrase to best describe the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers volleyball win over the Russell Lady Red Devils on Monday.
The titanic battle went four sets and they were four hard-fought sets.
“I’m not sure who we did it, but we came away with the win. That was a great and exciting game,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell.
Ironton (9-3) took a 23-15 lead in the first set and then had to survive a Russell comeback to win 30-28.
Russell won the second set 25-23 but the Lady Fighting Tigers rebounded to win 26-24 and 25-23.
Lexi Wise once again led the offense with 17 kills. Samantha LaFon had 10, M’Kenzie McMaster seven and McKenzie Cremeens three. Ali White had 21 assists and Peighton Rowe 16.
White finished with 117 points with four aces, Wise had 11 points, LaFon six and McMastere five.
Defensively, Wise had 15 digs, White and Demi Sands 10 each and Cremeens eight.
In the reserve game, Russell won in straight sets, 21-11, 21-8.
