WILLIAMSPORT — High school golf is a team sport. But it’s also an individual sport as well.
That dual opportunity was the perfect formula for Rock Hill Redmen senior golfer Logan Reed.
Reed shot rounds of 38 and 31 for a 69 total over the 6,808-yard, Par 72 Crown Hill Golf Club course on Wednesday to earn medalist honors.
Reed had seven birdies to start his first round to begin at 7-under.
And while the Rock Hill team was sixth, Reed’s medalist honors earned him a trip to the Division II state tournament Oct. 13-14 at the NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury.
The top two teams and top two individuals on a non-qualifying team advance to the state tournament. The other individual was Conner Heffner of Waverly who won a playoff against teammate Talon Osborne for the right to advance. Each finished with a 79.
Rock Hill qualified for the district as a team but finished sixth with a 360 score. Only the top two teams advanced to the state tournament.
Other Redmen playing were Jason Haywood with a 94, Chase Nelson 103 and Isaiah McFann 137.
Fairland was led by Reece Bellville who had an 86 and was 18th overall. Clayton Thomas shot an 87 and tied for 21st, Mason Manns finished with a 100, Mihkail Auxier had a 106 and Connor Franklin carded a 112.
Ironton Fighting Tigers’ Brayden Easterling had a 96 to place 39th and teammate Jason Carter was one shot back at 97 to tie for 40th. Chesapeake’s Austin Jackson finished with an even 100. All three qualified for the district as individuals.
Fairfield Union had a 327 to win the tournament and Unioto was second with a 335. They were followed by Piketon at 343, Waverly 354, Westfall 357, Rock Hill, New Lexington 367, Logan Elm 374, Fairland 379 and Wheelersburg 404.
