PORTSMOUTH — Chesapeake Panthers’ head coach Andy Clark must think he’s working at a M*A*S*H* unit.

Injuries have racked the Panthers the past few weeks and they took their toll last Friday in a 34-14 Ohio Valley Conference loss to the Portsmouth Trojans.

Chesapeake (3-4, 0-4) ran for 216 yards with Austin Browning carrying 15 times for 117 yards before leaving the game at the start of the second half.

“We played alright the first half, but then we lost Browning on the third play of the second half and we’re down a guard and then we were down two tackles and it just kept snowballing,” said Clark.

Portsmouth (3-4, 2-2) racked up 381 total yards with 304 on the ground. Talyn Parker rushed 16 times for 171 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Quarterback Luke Kelly ran 18 times for 118 yards and was 2-of-6 passing for 77 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Trojans took a 6-0 lead when Kelly scrambled and found Deante Parker open on a 53-yard scoring pass at the 2:30 mark of the first quarter.

Parker then scored on an 11-yard run with a minute to play in the quarter and it was 12-0.

Chesapeake answered with a scoring drive right before halftime as Browning ran 6 yards for a touchdown. Dalton Nida’s conversion kick made it 12-7.

Parker got loose on a 73-yard touchdown run with just eight seconds left and the Trojans now led 19-7.

But the Panthers used the limited remaining time to get another touchdown as Browning went 64 yards for a score as time ran out and it was 19-14 at the half.

Portsmouth used a 30-yard run by Parker and Kelly’s conversion run to go ahead 27-14 with 4:27 on the third quarter clock.

Parker’s 10-yard run with 6:30 to play capped the scoring.

On Friday, Chesapeake hosts South Point and Portsmouth visits Fairland.
