PEDRO — Football celebrates 1,000-yard rushers. The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ senior Lexi Wise is celebrating a thousand of her own.
But instead of yards Wise is celebrating her 1,000th career kill, the first player in Ironton volleyball history to accomplish the feat.
Wise got her historic mark as the third point in the fifth set of Tuesday’s Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game at Rock Hill.
Wise helped lead a comeback as Ironton dropped the first two sets 25-18 and 25-21 before winning 25-21, 25-14 and 15-7.
“We didn’t play well overall, but Lexi did a great job bringing us back and then she got her big kill. We’ve had a lot of good players through the years, so getting 1,000 kills is quite an accomplishment,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell.
Wise finished with 12 kills to go along with 15 points and 16 digs.
Ali White had a big game with 17 points including five aces and 35 assists.
Samantha LaFon had nine points, 16 kills and seven digs. M’Kenzie McMasters had six points, 10 kills and four blocks.
Mary Beth Burton and Kenzie Cremeens each had four blocks. Cremeens also had 15 digs and five kills.
Peighton Rowe and Riley Schreckhad four points and Emma Blankenship had seven digs.
Ironton (13-7) hosts Coal Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. It will be senior night.
