Sharon Baptist Church event starts at 2 p.m.

The Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton will be having a community block party starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Church member Gina Sexton said that the block party was a way to let the community know that the church is there for them.

“If they have a problem, if they need help, we’re here,” she said. “We are not just a bunch of fuddy-duddies who mess up just like everybody and that it is good to have a place to go when you need encouragement or help or just to have fellowship.”

She said the event was organized because it was a matter that was a burden on her heart and she talked to other people in the church and they decided to do the block party.

“Everybody pitched in and done a lot of legwork going to different restaurants and businesses,” Sexton said. The businesses from Ironton, South Point, and Ashland contributed things like gift cards and items for themed baskets to be given away.

When people come in, they sign up and can win something.

There will be food, entertainment including singers from Ironton High School, face painting and inflatables for the kids, corn hole and other activities.

“I just hope to reach as many people as possible,” Sexton said. “And that they will see us for what we really are. It’s a good place to come and hopefully, a lot of people will show up.”

The Rev. Steve Harvey is the pastor of Sharon Baptist Church.
