Flyers edge Redmen in OT

PEDRO — The St. Joseph Flyers and Rock Hill Redmen have only played close games to start the season.
It didn’t change on Tuesday.
The Flyers saw the Redmen rally to tie the game in the fourth quarter and then held on to with 56-54 in overtime.
Isaac Whaley made two foul shots to give St. Joseph a 45-42 lead, but Logan Hankins buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key with five seconds left to send the game into overtime.
With two minutes left in overtime, Rock Hill’s Braden Stamper hit a layup to tie the game at 50. Jake Blagg then hit a floater off the glass with 1:38 on the clock to give the Redmen the lead.
Zach Roach drained a deep trifecta with 1:17 left and the Flyers the lead. Chase Walters was fouled and hit both shots to up the Flyers’ lead to 55-52.
Stamper answered with a shot to get the Redmen within 55-54 with 23 second to go.
St. Joseph came out of a timeout with 14 seconds left and Blagg was able to force a five-second call. But the Redmen lost the ball in the lane and they were forced to foul Joey McDavid with 0.6 second to play.
McDavid hit the front end of the double bonus and the second was good but wiped off by a lane violation.
Kadin France threw the inbounds pass the length of the floor and Blagg’s 15-footer fell off the mark at the buzzer.
Walters led the Flyers with a game-high 19 points. Roach finished with 12 points and Whaley scored 10.
Stamper paced Rock Hill with 18 points, Blagg scored 13 and France had 10 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double in as many games.
The Redmen have lost all three of their games by a total of nine points.
St. Joseph (2-1) took a 15-8 first quarter lead as Roach scored nine points including a 3-pointer.
Neither team could find the basket in the second quarter and the Flyers led 20-14 at the half.
Walters and McDavid scored four points each and Whaley hit a triple in the third quarter as St. Joseph went up 31-24.
France score four points for the Redmen.
Blagg had eight points in the fourth quarter to spark the comeback. Cody Roberts also had a 3-pointer to go with Hankins and Stamper.
Whaley scored seven points in the fourth quarter including 4-of-4 at the foul line and Walters had five points and was 3-of-3 at the line.
St. Joseph plays at Green on Saturday while Rock Hill hosts Gallipolis next Tuesday.
Rock Hill (2-1) won the jayvee game 26-18 as Caleb Dillon had nine points and 11 rebounds while Garrett Miller had nine points. J.C. Damron scored seven for the Flyers.
