Amendment would raise price from $5 to $10

Tonight’s meeting of the Ironton City Council will include discussions of rummage sale permit fees, sign maintenance, police protection and service worker applications.

Anyone holding a rummage sale in Ironton could see the price of a permit double in price.

Ordinance 17-51, if amended at tonight’s meeting, would raise the price from $5 to $10.
Another item on the agenda is amending part of city ordinances regarding service work providers.

Ordinance 17-50 could be amended to state that “No person shall operate or conduct business as a service work provider without first obtaining a license” from the city finance department and paying a $150 annual fee. The application includes information about the business including tax information, officers of the company and employees.

The definition of service work provider does not include services provided by charitable, religious or educational organization or licensed and certified professions like health care providers, attorneys, police officers or accountants.

Ordinance 17-52 is a contract between the mayor and the Ironton Metropolitan Housing Authority for police protection. The officers would work targeted areas at times specified by the housing authority. The contract is for one year, starting on Jan. 1. The contract is not to exceed $12,000.

Ordinance 17-53 would authorize the Ohio Department of Transportation to do sign maintenance on U.S. 52 within the city limits of Ironton. The state would pay 100 percent of the cost necessary improvements while the city would pay 100 percent of the costs deemed by the state and Federal Highway Administration to be unnecessary for the project.

The Ironton City Council meets at 6 p.m. tonight on the third floor of the City Center.
