SOUTH POINT — As Jacob McCandles said to son Michael in the movie Big Jake, “That’s good shooting.”
The South Point Lady Pointers hit eight 3-point goals and went 8-for-8 at the foul line as they beat the Gallipolis Blue Angels 56-42 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
“We shot the ball pretty well. We made eight 3-pointers and we were perfect from the foul line. I was pleased with our offense,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.
“We got a big lead and then just played even. We missed a lot of opportunities after the first quarter, but a win is a win.”
Leah Lawson scored 15 points to lead the Lady Pointers (3-2, 2-2). Emilee Whitt and Madison Kearns each scored 14 points.
Kearns made four 3-pointer goals, Whitt two and Lawson one. All three went 2-for-2 at the foul line.
Alex Barnes scored 15 points and Ashton Webb 11 to lead Gallipolis (4-3, 1-3).
The Lady Pointers came out firing in the first quarter as Lawson hit three triples and Whitt a pair to give South Point took a 21-9 lead.
Lawson had six points as five different players scored in the second quarter and South Point lead 33-23 at the half.
Barnes and Ryelee Sipple scored four each in the quarter for Gallipolis.
Kearns hit another trifecta and Lawson scored four points as South Point went in front 43-32 after three quarters. Barnes had five points in the quarter.
Maddy Khounlavong and Lawson hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Lady Pointers added to their lead.
South Point hosts Wheelersburg at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday while Gallipolis entertains Jackson on Monday.
