Guns shouldn’t be only issue for sportsmen
Published Friday, October 3, 2008
If you are an avid hunter and target shooter like me, you should be relieved to know that neither presidential candidate wants to take away your right to enjoy your sport.
Obama and McCain both support the Second Amendment, which gives each of us the right to bear arms. Obama and McCain both have voted against a number of restrictive gun provisions, including the right of the federal government to confiscate firearms during emergencies.
What is interesting is that both candidates have also drawn the ire of the NRA for their support of criminal background checks for purchasers at large gun shows.
However, there are other positions that the candidates have taken that may be important in helping sportsmen decide how to vote this November.
McCain has voted against the Conservation Reserve Program and the Wetlands Reserve Program (Obama co-sponsored) that are strongly supported by Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
To my fellow Ohio Sportsmen, the good news is that both Obama and McCain will protect our right to enjoy our sport, so there is not much to choose between on this issue. On the other hand, there are a great number of very important non-sportsman issues, which will decide what kind of world, and country future generations will live in.
There are big differences between the candidates, it just does not have to do with guns.

Nice deception, lib.
Nobama has been a consistent gun-banner. If elected you can guarantee that he (the most liberal senator currently) and the liberal-run senate combined with the liberal-run house of representatives WILL pass laws to ban or further restrict guns for Americans.
A key phrase Nobama uses is "common sense" gun laws. Translation: any thing he wants. Another thing he has publicly stated is that local cities should be able to pass "safety laws" to "protect the people". Translation: the government can ban or severely restrict guns for law-abiding citizens, thus infringing upon our right to keep and bear arms. Chicago, IL has pretty much taken away the 2nd Amendment right of its law-abiding citizens.
Washington DC quickly became the "murder capital" of the country after they banned all law-abiding citizens from owning and being able to use firearms to protect themselves and their families. Even after the Supreme Court recently overturned the gun ban the liberal elite who run that town passed a law that still does not comply with the Court's ruling. This is because they are liberal.
ANY far-left liberal, such as the messiah Nobama, WILL continue trying to ban guns for the law-abiding citizens. A vote for Nobama is a vote to ban guns.
If you value your guns vote conservative.
"both candidates have also drawn the ire of the NRA" You can't honestly equate Nobama with McCain on the 2nd Amendment issue. McCain is not at A+ status yet, but it's like comparing a speeding ticket to armed robbery. McCain will not ban guns even if he wanted to.
Lastly,
"the Second Amendment, which gives each of us the right to bear arms." FALSE. The Bill of Rights in our Constitution does not GIVE any rights. The 2nd Amendment codifies the pre-existing right from our Creator that each of us has the right of self-defense. The amendment tells government that you cannot take away this right from The People.

God, gays and guns again.
Obama's a Christian, so that takes out the God question.
Biden said last night that neither he nor Obama want to redefine marriage to include gay people. Strike out that one.
So, now we will lie about his stance on guns.
Get real! He's a constitutional scholar for crying out loud. He knows more about the 2nd Amendment than many of us have forgotten.

Lee C. Howley has put in head in the sand . . . or somewhere . . . Obama's and Biden's voting record are arguably the worst in the Senate. And it would be difficult to find two more anti-gun politicians in the entire country.
You don't have to take anyone's word for it, just look at their voting records. Biden even brags about his role in drafting the so-called assault weapons ban. Before you say "what would anyone need an assualt weapon for?", consider the following:
There is very good reason to protect these weapons in particular. Part of the myriad of reasons our founders created the Second Amendment is so that the People would have an ultimate recourse against future tyranny. Candidates like Obama and Biden, with their cynical though thinly veiled attempts at duping the electorate, serve to highlight the wisdom of the founding fathers.
They have already said they would start with start with so-called assault weapons, You know, the ones that are used in less than 1/10th of a percent of gun crime. (FBI uniform crime report). But they are just ugly enough, and look just menacing enough to be excellent target of a gun ban. Fact is, even an M16 fires a cartridge that isn't nearly as devastating as a typical hunting round like a .308 or 30.06. But the average person doesn't know this.
The majority opinion in Heller vs D.C. has re-affirmed Miller VS US, in the sense that the 2nd amendment specifically protects weapons that are suited for militia (read military) use, or weapons that are in common use at the time.
The compromise, in terms of "reasonable restrictions" is already in place: unless registered prior to 1986, civilian versions of these weapons are not fully automatic, requiring the trigger to be pulled once for each round fired.
Sure, we won't have outright gun confiscation a broad scale . . . right away. But until we draw a permanent line in the sand, and specifically codify the limits of government infringement in our courts and legislatures, we may depend on a relentless chipping away of this fundamental right to keep and bear until one day we will look up, and the right will have ceased to exist.
I confess that I don't understand the gun-banner's mindset at all. How can they, ostensibly intelligent, rational people, put their brains on hold, and actually believe that any criminal who would be willing to threaten or kill his fellow man, would give a damn about a law forbidding carry, possession of any kind of lethal weapon.
Second amendment rights notwithstanding, if we think that we would have a snowballs chance of getting weapons "off the streets" let us examine our success in preventing the flow of thousands of tons of illegal drugs, and preventing the crossing of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants.
Although Biden and Obama could never likely round up all the guns under their watch, they can and would do serious damage to this right, by relentless, incremental baby steps.

Who does Mr. Howley think he's fooling? Regardless what Obama says, his record speaks otherwise. His record in Illinois is extremely anti-gun, and as the executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association has stated "Any sportsman who counts Barack Obama as one of his friends is seriously confused."

Yep, Obama is going to break into your house at any moment and take your guns and make you get an abortion. The reason the Obama campaign is so impressive is that they're on this B.S. like a school of piranhas. In the car on the way to work yesterday, I heard an Obama commercial that's playing in Southern Virginia - Ralph Stanley appealing to Virginians to vote for Obama, bluegrass playing in the background. Perfect. These people are good.

Let me make sure I have got this right.Lee C. Howley representing the Ohio Wildlife Council, is telling me democrats no longer want to take my guns. I will be taking that to the bank right away. I know what he is telling us must be true. Ohio Wildlife Council Chairman Howley wouldn't lye to any one unless it was important or he thought he could get away with it or may be a few other reasons. Besides he knows every thing there is to know about every thing and there isn’t any one he doesn’t trust.
Howley I might take your advice if I didn't have a mind of my on, I didn’t think, or if I didn’t believe you may have lost yours. I think, “there for”, I'll take a pass on your advise this time. You know thanks but no thanks.
By the way Ohio Wildlife Council Chairman Howley, in the words of Barack Obama, "IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE". Enough said if you get my mean. One last thing Ohio Wildlife Council Chairman Howley, you might want to check your watering holes because there is a pretty good chance you have recently past a bad one. I think I am going to lye down now, I only hope no one else tries to clime my leg.

From the Chicago Defender, Dec. 13, 1999:
Sweeping federal gun control legislation proposed by Sen. Barack Obama (D-13th) would increase the penalties on gun runners who are flooding Chicago's streets with illegal weapons.
At an anti-gun rally held at the Park Manor Christian Church, 600 E. 73rd St., headed by the Rev. James Demus, Obama also said he's backing a resolution being introduced into the City Council by Alds. Toni Preckwinkle (4th), Ted Thomas (15th), Leslie Hairston (5th) to call for a "shot-free" millennium celebration.
Obama outlined his anti-gun plan that includes increased penalties for the interstate transportation of firearms. The maximum penalty now for bringing a gun across the border is 10 years in prison. Obama is proposing to make it a felony for a gun owner whose firearm was stolen from his residence which causes harm to another person if that weapon was not securely stored in that home. [!!!]
He's proposing restricting gun purchases to one weapon a month and banning the sale of firearms at gun shows except for "antique" weapons. Obama is also proposing increasing the licensing fee to obtain a federal firearms license.
He's also seeking a ban on police agencies from reselling their used weapons even if those funds are used to buy more state-of-the-art weapons for their agencies. Obama wants only those over 21 who've passed a basic course to be able to buy or own a firearm.
He's proposing that all federally licensed gun dealers sell firearms in a storefront and not from their homes while banning their business from being within five miles of a school or a park. He's also banning the sale of 'junk" handguns like the popular Saturday Night Specials.
Obama is requiring that all people working at a gun dealer undergo a criminal background check. He's also asking that gun manufacturers be required to develop safety measures that permit only the original owner of the firearm to operate the weapon purchased.
Additionally, he wants an increase of the funds for schools to teach anger management skills for youth between the ages of 5-13. Obama is also seeking to increase the federal taxes by 500 percent on the sale of firearm, ammunition [sic] -- weapons he says are most commonly used in firearm deaths.

Folks ought to judge Chicago Machine politicians by their actions, and not by their campaign rhetoric.
Chicagospeak redefines the meaning of "Common Sense." Welcome to Chicago "common sense" gun control.
Chicago requires her law abiding citizens to register their handguns. However, Chicago quit allowing law abiding citizens to register new handguns in the early 1990's. New citizen? New gun? Too bad.
Barry's "common sense" also redefines the definition of "law abiding" citizen. Chicago politicians exempted themselves from the law. And unlike the mere "law abiding" citizens of Illinois, politicians also "concealed carry" because they redefined themselves as "officers of the peace."
Meanwhile, "common sense" to gun control means Chicago will always remain its status as a Major League World Series contender for gun violence capitol.
All hail our future Great Leader from Chicago, continuing a fine tradition of the best politicians dirty money can buy.

Master Chef, Thanks! You would know. I know you are all about Obama so if you or any of your friends are looking for an Obama nation flag(s) to replace old glory with, just post a request for an Obama nation Flag at the front of one of your comments and I will let you know where to get them. I should also be able to find you a buyer for the old glory(s) being replaced by those suffering for a change Obamaians that probably need to defer some of the cost of their new more modern Obama nation flag. Let me ask you some thing Chief. If an Obama voter is late for a chicken decapitation or some other animal sacrifice will they be allowed to join in and do what ever it is they do at those things? Pathetic, is awaiting your orders Master Chief.
