Four arrested in Kitts Hill robberies
Published Thursday, August 6, 2009
Four people are in custody in connection with a string of recent daytime robberies in Pedro and Kitts Hill.
Shon Williams, 24, of 1208 S. Second St., Ironton, and Ranae Schwab, 26, of 1021 S. Sixth St., Ironton, were arrested by Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies and taken to the jail in Ironton.
William R. Sexton, 26, 204 ½ Mastin Ave., Ironton and Sara M. Branham, 23, of 1206 Raceland Ave., Raceland, Ky., were arrested and taken to the Greenup County, Ky., Detention Center by Russell, Ky., police.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless said detectives investigating several daytime robberies received numerous tips about who might have been involved.
When Williams and Schwab implicated Sexton and Branham during their interviews.
A search of Branham’s vehicle turned up several items that had been allegedly stolen during a recent burglary in the Westwood, Ky., area, including guns and hunting equipment.
The four have reportedly told authorities they went to homes they intended to victimize and first knocked on the door to see if anyone was home.
If they got no answer they would break in. If the knock was answered the four reportedly told deputies they would pretend they were looking for someone and then leave.
Williams and Schwab will be arraigned today in Ironton Municipal Court.
Extradition is being sought for the other two, Lawless said.

Thank goodness that the thieves were caught and not only were they too stupid and lazy to work for what they want, they weren't really very loyal to their friends (or partners in crime). I live in the area and saw personally how hard the Sheriff's Dept worked on this matter. I want to thank Sheriff Jeff Lawless and his crew for the almost constant patrols and following up on tips and leads. Just remember, that as a rule a thief will like to brag about his actions to those that he is trying to impress, but it all will come back and bite him. Pretty low to steal from a 96 year old good Christian man that never hurt anyone, let alone all the other invasions.

I don't see how anybody can read this story along with the arrest reports and say that the Sheriff's office is useless. Seems to me we need a jail with more than double the present capacity, appropriate staffing, and at least double the road deputy and detective staff.

I to live in the area and watched Sheriff Lawless and his deputies work tirelessly to apprehend these yellow bellied thieves. Hopefully now the judicial system can and will give them the max.
I bet they thought they were pretty clever stealing from the elderly and innocent. Probably not feeling so clever now. Thank God we can breath a little easier. Good job Sheriff Lawless and staff. I am sure all of us out here will remember your efforts and hard work at election time. God bless all of you.

Congratulations Sheriff's Dept.
I too, would like to see mug shots. Are these the people who showed up at our door with the story of a 'New company' that didn't have money to advertise, so they were peddling thier goods door to door?
Warning to readers: Do not let anyone you don't know into your house for any reason. Times are getting worse and drugs are all around.
Ironton Tribune, can you run a story/column of how to protect yourself from scams?
Readers- one last piece of advice TRUST YOUR GUT FEELINGS. Don't let your guard down because you want to be percieved as a nice person. If you feel uncomfortable, then act on this.

I agree seems like Jeff Lawless's dept did a great job , but the problem will lie with the punishment phase... Our devoted LC Prosecutor is known for being very lax on criminals and famous for cutting deals . so the chances for them to be on the street again are probably 75%. It really seems like a stupid circle and waste of out tax money for one dept to spend money tracking them down and another county office to "let them go!!!" feel sorry for Jeff Lawless , he must get really frustrated at times along with Jim Carey of the IPD. They both do a great job. but it all falls apart when handed over for punishment
