Hunter’s death not suspicious
Authorities suspect man died of natural causes
Published Thursday, December 3, 2009
MASON TOWNSHIP — Authorities said this morning the death of a Swanton man while hunting near Greasy Ridge Wednesday is not being considered suspicious.
“Matthew Mathias, 44, was hunting with a friend in the woods off Township Road 76 when he died,” Lawrence County Sheriff’s Detective Bollinger said.
“According to the report, he had shot a deer and had come back to pick up the four-wheeler from where it was located.
“He loaded the deer and was traveling up the hill and the four-wheeler tipped over. The man complained of pain in his arm and difficulty breathing,” Bollinger said.
The man’s body was taken to Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday. Both the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office participated in the investigation.

Just for the record Windsor Twp VFD, Aid Township VFD, Rome Township VFD, SEOEMS (2 Squads) and ODNR Wildlife officers were on scene also.

myview... No one said anything about response. They said INVESTIGATED. Standing around with does not necessarily qualify you for mention as an investigator.
They did not mention RESPONSE. Grow up, it's not about recognition.

Just curious and not meaning to sound callous, but an unknown number of persons from the sheriff's office, the coroner's office, three volunteer fire departments, two SEOEMS units, and wildlife officers all responded to the scene of the ATV incident. How many people does it take to say, "Yep, he's dead!". Let's appreciate the firemen weren't needed for an actual fire, the SEOEMS units weren't needed for an accident or life-threatening illness, and the wildlife officials couldn't find anything better to do with their time. A blatant case of curiosity. RUNutz?

Wildlife was there because it was a hunting related incident, Whenever a cardiac arrest call gets to SEOEMS they automatically send 2 squads, (no need to explain why). The call was in Mason Twp. So Aid VFD and Windsor VFD both respond. (Sould be noted Aid did not stay on scene) The other VFD was called to bring a John Deere Gator due to the fact the hunter was at least a mile from the road, and that was the best and easiest way to do it.
