Water woes hit Coal Grove
Published Thursday, December 10, 2009
COAL GROVE — The water was back on in Coal Grove Wednesday afternoon following a Tuesday night line break.
Service was restored by 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to Nadine Malone of the village.
A boil water advisory is in effect until further notice.
The village turned the water off Wednesday morning, though some customers have not had it since Tuesday night.
Dawson-Bryant schools were canceled Wednesday.
The problem was caused by a break in the water line that goes to the company’s tank.
The line has been repaired and the village had to wait for the tank to fill before it turned on the water again.

The streets are getting in the shape like Ironton with all of the patches. I would think they would try to have multiple shut off valves instead of just one main one that shuts off the entire village.

I think the grove has more woes than just water. They can't even get a quorum to have a council meeting. They held a meeting to vote out two council members who haven't shown up for two months. One of them is too busy with his rental props to show up, the other didn't give a reason. So the vote was tied and know one got the boot. Now who was it that voted to keep a couple of councilmen who doesn't even care enough to show up to do the job they were voted to do. Well hopefully the new members will take care of this problem.

I'm astonished at the ignorance of the people posting comments concerning this story. The story is about a water problem in the village. This was not an open invitation to make jokes about employees; whether it be about age or education. I suppose no consideration of anyone was made before posting these comments? If you have serious concerns about the way things are handled in the village, try going through proper channels. Expressing your views and ignorant jokes through comments online serves no purpose.

fireman, you are a cruel and ignorant person. I know these people, and not only are your comments hurtful, but they are irrelevant. Get off the internet, learn some socialization skills, and get a life.

What does a college degree have to do with fixing a water line?

Intelligent, not intelligant.
I hear they're ( or they are), not there.
I remember an old saying about people in glass houses and stones..........

I agree completely informed1 and was going to do the same corrections on that post. I live in CG and yes, I'm very intelligent - notice the spelling. You don't have to have a college education though to fix a water line. There are problems in Ironton too and other cities, so it's not just CG. CG does lack some good leadership and does need some better solutions to the way things work, but that doesn't mean that you can't have just a GED to be a functional member of society. Be nice if most of you people would just stick with the subject on the article and not go off in a tirade of other issues that have nothing to do with it!
Another problem with CG is the hours that the water and other offices are open. Their hours are outrageous for working people. Why can't they work a normal 8-4 or 9-5 to make it easier if there are problems that people need to address.
Oh and BTW Ironton Tribune, our water was not on by 3 p.m. Our water was back on around 5 p.m. and didn't pick up full pressure until almost 7 p.m. It might have been said service was restored by 3 p.m., but that was not the case where I live.

It's hard for council and mayor to get things done when they can't get a quorum for council meeting.

Hey itsallgood you said one council member had to work on his rental property and that is why he didn't show up to some meetings but you also have a council member on there that has had to miss because he is a coach. We need to be worried about the council members who are using village equipment and village employees on village time for their own personal use.
I also agree with mommyof2 the hours at the town house need to be changed to better serve the citizens.

I think if you run for council and are elected then you should make every effort to attend council meetings and do what you were elected to do. period. No council meeting was held Dec 1 due to lack of quorum. A special meeting was held Nov 28th. The meeting was set up to vacate council seats. I am quoting from the record of proceedings on November 28th. Wise said if Chris Brammer was willing to step in and take the two years and put up with the crap that council wants to do he's willing to give it up. Mr. McCown said procedure was upon resignation etc council has 30 days to appoint someone. (In other words Mr. Wise can not appoint his replacement)
Mr. Wise said the meetings used to be on Thursday and they were switched to Tuesday for Mr. Miller's convenience . Mr. Miller agreed and wanted to know why Wise could not attend on Tuesday. (In other words MIller shows up and he notifies council if he can't)
Mr. Wise said maybe he doesn't like Tuesdays and had personal problems.
Mr. Ross had not attended or notified anyone for the same two month period that Mr. Wise did.
Mr. Ross asked someone to make a motion to vacate the seats of Ross and Wise so we could get "out of here".( So Ross can attend to vote nay on the vacates but you can't show up for a regular scheduled meeting to conduct business.
For Ross and Wise to vacate the seat voting no were Brammer, Ross, and Wise. Motion failed.
Why doesn't Wise resign? He doesn't want to attend meetings and was willing to resign if Brammer could have taken his seat?????? Ross why are you even on council if you don't show up and never give a reason for not attending. Brammer, what is wrong with you for continuing this lack of quorum going on.
Hopefully when Self, Markins, and Collins get in then you will go by by Wise.

hey itsallgood, sounds to me like you wanted one of the seats. sorry things didnt go your way but i like the two council members your talking about and i voted for both of them and will do so again. so you better hope no one finds out who you are because you might just need them. but im sure those two would still be there to help you if you need it. unlike other members we have on there. and i know that for a fact.

by the way how do you know so much about what when on in a special meeting. you just wish it would be by by wise, now i know who you are by your post. and i can say that you lied to me at a meeting. also why should wise and ross show up? you other members and the mayor work aginst them. i know for a fact because i was told by the council and the mayor that wise did so what i asked of him and you and the mayor still havent made sure that it was done

Let me clear this up for you gcmom.
When council has a meeting it is public record and a copy of the record of proceedings can be obtained from the village clerk. I think you have to pay for it. I was given a copy to read. I read it along with several other people and we thought it was a disgrace. I have never attended a council meeting. 3. Have never ran for a council seat. 4. I am not afraid if you find out who I am. 5. Wise and Ross should show up because that is why they ran for council (I think that is why).

Let me clear this up for you itsallgood. Randy is not going to resign.
Randy is guilty of missing a few meetings. At the last meeting Randy and Mr. Brammer were the only 2 Council Members who showed up I guess Mr.Miller had a basketball game and who knows what everyone else had to do.
If you would like to see all the minutes of the meetings for the last year let me know and I'll give you a copy for free. You might be interested in seeing what actually goes on in the meetings. If you want a copy of the tapes you have to get that before they approve the minutes of each meeting, because they destroy them.
I'm not afraid to post my name.
