Man dead after Saturday crash

Police trying to determine cause

Published Monday, December 28, 2009

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — A Proctorville man was killed Saturday in a one-car accident on U.S. 60 in Barboursville, W.Va.

The victim is identified as Harvey A. Hall III, 56, of 2072 County Road 411. His body has been taken to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for an autopsy.

The driver of the car, James L. Shaver, 60, of Patriot, was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Information on his condition was not available as of press time.

Barboursville Police Chief Mike Coffey said Shaver’s Mercury Topaz was eastbound on U.S. 60 near the Huntington Mall when the vehicle suddenly crossed into the westbound lanes, went off the pavement, over a steep embankment and struck a tree.

“There was no indication as to why this happened. We’re hoping to speak with Mr. Shaver today plus get his medical records,” Coffey said. “In talking to the witnesses, there was no speeding, nothing in the roadway, for this to have happened.”

The accident occurred just after noon Saturday.
