What is this?
Time Warner should offer Columbus news channel
Published Saturday, January 3, 2009
Has anyone noticed that we lost channel 18, WNBS 10 from Columbus? Does this unannounced line up change bother anyone? We were all victims of a clever bait and switch because of the recent problems between Viacom and Time Warner Cable.
All of the news was focused on the potential loss of several other channels — this never happened! It probably was never going to happen anyway. While we were waiting to see the outcome of this, they stole our Columbus channel. They tried to do this a few years ago. Did they think we wouldn't notice? Do they care? No!
This is a copy of the I sent letter sent to Time Warner Cable today.
Please join me by flooding the TWC offices with more letters of your own. I would also like to enlist the help of city council in the matter.
Perhaps it is time to bring in another cable provider.
I am very upset by the recent loss of cable channel 18, WBNS 10. The station originates from the state capitol and provides us with news otherwise unavailable from a “local” WV affiliate.
This change was not published in the 2009 channel line up earlier this month.
I currently contribute over $160 every month to TWC but because of this recent unannounced change in programming, I will be looking into satellite providers. I hope you will reconsider this poor decision.

It has to do with legislation by Congress on what channels are considered local and what is not. Since we live in the Huntington/Charleston/Portsmouth market, we get the network stations that originate from there.
I get my service through DishNetwork, and that what they explained to me. I informed them that our local cable company was offering WBNS out of Columbus, and they told me that was going to be changing soon. They told me that two years ago, guess Time-Warner finally had to start playing by the same rules the other providers had to.

I also think it stinks we live in Ohio and can't get an Ohio station. I watch wbns quite often. We were never informed either. I pay over 100 per month and it is entirely too high for what I get.

We have internet from Time Warner, when we first got it, it was real fast. When they offered an even faster internet ours got real slow, I guess they do that so you will update to a more expensive one. I wish they had some competition, it would probably help.

At one point we had Time Warner for cable and for internet - now we have Directv and AT&T internet....best move we ever made. The internet has been 100% better than Time Warner was (not to mention much better customer service) A week of no internet and no help from them is why I discontinued the internet service, then not being able to get any help with the digital cable either, we dropped it too. I love the options we have with having the satellite...not to mention the 2 bills combined are $60+ cheaper than Time Warner was. I don't regret changing at all. After switching, I did miss having the channels from Columbus and Cincinnati, but I guess it wouldn't matter now.
