Citizens should be thankful for its firefighters

Published Wednesday, July 1, 2009

On Thursday, June 26, our 3-year-old granddaughter needed some emergency assistance.

I immediately ran with her to the Ironton Fire Department knowing that each are trained as EMTs and in first aid and CPR. They immediately took over and helped assess her while calling for assistance.

The city residents are very lucky to have such brave, knowledgeable, dedicated and professional firefighters who are there for us each and every hour of the day.

My family and I want to thank you and let you know how much we appreciate each one of you for all you do every day and for helping our granddaughter.

I would just like to thank you for your continuous support for the troops over here fighting for our freedom.

I am currently on a six-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom but my heart and soul is still with the city of Ironton.

To everyone who prays for our safe being, thank you so much and we hope to see you soon. Good luck on the up and coming football season. Go Tigers!

Im sure glad Ironton has FULL TIME FIREFIGHTERS EMT'S instead of volenteer, otherwise the end results might not have been so good, hope every thing turned out good for your grand daughter

The theory of all paid and no volunteer FF and EMT's is a wonderful concept, on paper but who is going to pay for them? I know most citizen in Lawerence County cry about voting yes for a levy to support a volunteer FD about 1-2 mill depending on the township. The difference would mean paying for a full time paid FD would be like someone else deciding your getting a 12 mil tax increase. I'm happy someone was there in your time of need. But until Lawrence County citizens can afford Paid FD's, be glad you have us Volunteers who still make house calls at 3 am for free. just so you understand how the mill rate works, A mill is equal to $1.00 of tax for each $1,000 of assessment. To calculate the property tax, multiply the assessment of the property by the mill rate and divide by 1,000. For example, a property with a assessed value of $50,000 located in a municipality with a mill rate of 20 mills would have a property tax bill of $1,000 per year.
