Run By The River was tremendous success

Published Tuesday, June 23, 2009

The 32nd annual Run By The River, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of East Greenup County, Ky., was most successful, thanks to our 22 sponsors, 233 runners and general support from throughout the Tri-State.

In spite of the current economic situation, we managed to increase sponsorship levels and the number of runners and end the day with more proceeds that will be used over the next year to support Kiwanis civic projects, which include scholarships for a Key Club member at each of three high schools, food baskets at Thanksgiving, a Terrific Kids program at Wurtland Elementary, Shop With a Cop, a Builder’s Club at Russell Middle School, the therapeutic riding academy and others.

The following businesses and individuals made this event possible: Ashland-Bellefonte Cardiology (Dr. Charles Rhodes and Dr. David Bush), Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, General Heating and Air Conditioning, McKinney Tire Warehouse, People’s Bank, Carman Funeral Home, AAA Travel in Flatwoods, Kentucky Farmers Bank, Dr. James T. Brom, Bob Clyse Buick-Pontiac-GMC, National City Bank, Great Lakes Minerals, Super Quik, McDonald’s, Giovanni’s Pizza, First and People’s Bank and Trust Co., Boyd County Ford, Hensley & Dawson, attorneys at law, Stultz Pharmacy, Bob Carroll’s Kentucky Farm Bureau, City National Bank and Pennington’s Foodfair.

We especially appreciate the assistance from the Russell and Worthington police departments, Greenup County EMS, Jordan Ice, The Printing Express, Chick-fil-A, Tres Hermanos and The Tribune and Sports Editor Jim Walker for providing outstanding coverage of the race.

Next year’s Run By The River is set for Saturday, June 12, 2010 and we already have our first entrant.
