Firefighters battle another forest fire
Two other fires now contained
Published Wednesday, March 11, 2009
PEDRO — Wayne National Forest firefighters are dealing with yet another wildland fire Wednesday night that is being called the Brady Run Fire. The incident is located on the Wayne National Forest near the Lawrence and Scioto County line between County Road 40 and Telegraph Ridge Road, two miles west of State Route 93.
An aerial flight flown by a U.S. Forest Service contracted helicopter estimates the fire to be at almost 200-acres in size. Unfortunately, firefighters are having to be careful as they are coping with unstable ground due to past coal mining activities in the area.
The U.S.Forest Service encourages the public to stay away from the burn area and to be on the outlook for emergency vehicles on area roads. Containment efforts will continue through the night and into Thursday. Smoke could become a factor late tonight as temperatures fall.
Meanwhile, the Wayne National Forest is calling the 650 fire, also located in Lawrence County as being 100% contained tonight at 75-acres. The Deep Cut Fire is also 100% contained and was turned over to the state of Ohio’s Division of Forestry this morning.
Ohioans are urged to be aware of the state's outdoor burning regulations and take necessary precautions if they are planning to burn debris. Ohio law states that outdoor debris burning is prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during March, April, and May. Burning is limited in the spring due to the abundance of dry fuel on the ground before small, grassy fuels green up with moisture.

God Bless all the firefighters and forestry workers out on these calls. Although it's your legal right to burn, maybe until the winds actually die down we shouldn't.

Legal right it may be... But MORAL right? Nope.
Before you burn, stop and think.... Am I POSITIVE I can burn safely?
I wish that the home of the idiots who start these fires would burn. Of course, that's the one person who suffers nothing.. no fine, no property damage, nothing. They don't even apologize for being stupid.
