South Point bridge to be renamed in honor of Mayor William Gaskin

SOUTH POINT — The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce/Lawrence Economic Development Corporation will be hosting a ribbon cutting as the U.S. 52 bridge overpass on Solida Road is renamed the “William A. Gaskin Bridge.”

The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday with a ribbon cutting and sign display uncovering on site.

Reception will immediately follow at the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce office.

William Gaskin has been mayor of South Point since 1979 and has been a crucial figure in the growth of the community.

Gaskin is responsible for improving the municipal park, creating a boat ramp park, resurfacing the village streets, expanding water and sewer services, and instrumental in developing the U.S. 52 overpass.

Gaskin has served on the Ohio Public Works Committee, Ohio Mayor's Association, Ohio Municipal League, Lawrence Economic Development Corporation, and the Huntington/Ironton Empowerment Zone Committee to establish the Point Industrial Park.
