Firefighters battle wildfire in Wayne National Forest
Published Tuesday, November 10, 2009
DECATUR TOWNSHIP — U.S. Forest Service Firefighters from the Wayne National Forest, Ironton Ranger District are busy this morning responding to a wildfire that’s estimated to be 70-acres.
As of 10:15 a.m., the fire was located on the north end of Decatur Township west of State Route 93 off County Road 34, known as Pine Creek Road. No homes or any other structures are threatened at this time. Firefighters are seeking to place a containment line around the fire, which is creeping along the forest floor burning mostly leafy vegetation.
At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.
Cooperators on the incident include the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry and the Madison Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department.
Ohioans are urged to be aware of the state's outdoor burning regulations and take necessary precautions if they are planning to burn debris. Ohio law states that outdoor debris burning is prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during October, November and December, as well as the months of March, April, and May. Violators of Ohio's burning regulations are subject to citations and fines.
The fire is not the result of a prescribed fire that was planned for yesterday (Monday, November 9th) on the district. Weather conditions kept firefighters from implementing the burn.

Are you sure it's a fire? It may just be road salt.

SomeGuyOnLaneStreet - I know you are trying to be funny but it is a fire and my good friend is fighting it. I just don't think it should be a joke.

wow.. I was out that way today, and stated to a friend wow, this looks like there is a fire somewhere, that end of 93 looked all white and actually it looked like we were about to get snow...lol..
I hope everyone is okay out there battling this fire.. This type of fire is very stressful, firefighters get tired and hot at the same time wearing that gear is enough to make anyone tired.. You fireman be careful and thank you all for all you do.....
