Two jailed for burglaries in Rome

ROME TOWNSHIP — Two people are in jail, charged in connection with burglaries in the Rome area earlier this month.

Nicholas McCreery, 23, of Huntington, W.Va., is charged with two counts of burglary. Christy Stone, 29, of 106 Ellis St., Proctorville, is charged with two counts of complicity to burglary.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Detective Aaron Bollinger said on or about Nov. 1, deputies responding to a burglary were told that a man and a woman in a black Land Rover were seen in the area about the time of the incident.

The woman was reportedly knocking on doors in the area where the burglary occurred.

On Nov. 11, deputies received calls from several people in the Rome-Union area, advising authorities the couple were seen in their neighborhood. The couple were apprehended shortly thereafter, but not without a fight.

“Nicholas McCreery attempted to flee on foot. He resisted arrest,” Bollinger said.

Items allegedly stolen during the burglaries were found in Stone’s vehicle.

Bollinger said both Stone and McCreery have confessed to the crimes.

“Drugs are the motivating thing here, according to both of them,” Bollinger said. “Both of them said they are bad Oxycontin users.”

Both were taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
