IPD seeks info on 3 armed robberies
Authorities believe all commited by same person
Published Saturday, November 21, 2009
IRONTON — Ironton police are looking for a white male that they believe is responsible for three armed robberies of city businesses in the past two days.
Thursday evening around 6 p.m. a suspect went into the Kentucky Fried Chicken on South Second Street and demanded cash.
On Friday at about the same time, a suspect went into the Little Caesar’s on South Fourth Street and then into the Kwik Stop on South Third Street, again demanding cash. On all three occasions, the suspect said he had a weapon.
One report states that he was wearing a ski mask and dark hood. At all three robberies, the suspect fled in a vehicle. There were no injuries reported in any of the three robberies. An undetermined amount of cash was taken.
“We believe they are possibly related,” Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey said. “We are checking into similarities. With the holiday season picking up, people need to take more precautions.”

Carey said “We are checking into similarities. With the holiday season picking up, people need to take more precautions"
Carey better start taking more precautions.
Restaurants robbed in the height of the dinner hour. What is this doing for families wanting to eat or take out. What is this doing for business.
Carey needs better plans.
Perhaps someone did describe the vehicle and they are silent on it.
Carey better get this guy.

Bilco
There is alot of crime increase on his watch. It is his job to prevent crimes as well as solve them.
Just because there isn't alot to go on doesn't mean Carey shouldn't do more to try to keep the restaurants safe at dinner time.
Quit the excuses for your buddy, your boss , your kin or yourself.

I have no personal thing with carey. I just think crime is too rampant in town. Having these restaurants robbed at dinner time is too much. This shows the obvious lack of protection in the town. Nobody and no place is safe anymore. The town is lawless. He is the one in charge of preventing crime. Crime is on the rise.
I guess he needs to come up with a plan to prevent these robberies instead of saying there isn't much to go on. Stop the crime to begin with.

How could any police officer stop this before it happened, unless he was in the place eating. I'm sure Chief Carey is doing everything he can to solve this. PD is understaffed and they cant be everywhere at the same time.

whats the problem, the new council will clean up the town

There could be more patrols by the business streets at dinner time. There could be some alarms set up to the PD too. There are too many excuses made for the PD. They always cry money money. Once again, if the political cronies were cleanned up, there would be more money for the PD.

Hey goybar
Why can't you give a decent answer without namecalling. This shows immaturity just like the excuse making PD and city officials.
what connection do you have with the excuse making so-called PD. I have paid plenty of taxes in ironton. I can have my say. This is the USA and not the good ol ironton boys club. These people work for the taxpayers and the taxpayers alone. Stop the excuses and do the job or get out. These Police decided to go into those jobs. I picked a career where I can be a sucess. I also answer to myself.
Whoswho got it right. it is time to demand that the city/county and the PD do something besides cry about money.
Do your job - stop the crime or resign and let someone who can, take the controls. If you can't handle the job and the demand for accountabilty when you can't, step aside. Show some maturity and responsibility.

Another thing - It is a pretty petty person who refuses to accept reponsibility without saying someone must have a grudge. That is so childish.
You and the city/PD lack morals to refuse to see that people want a safe place to eat. A safe place to run a business. A safe place to raise a family.
No you act like a child and say it is spite. You have no values and you obviously refuse to think. You don't realize people want a better quality of life. namely a safe place to live, work and shop.
Tell the PD to start thinking and make the streets safe. Tell them to start being responsible and solve the crime. They are reduced to asking for the people to take precautions. That is unacceptable. What a shame they have allowed this city to go down so far. Don't they want a clean town or do they don't care as long as they carry a gun.
It is obvious that these criminals don't fear the Ironton PD. Doing a crime at 6 at night in a busy place. Then the only thing done is name call the people wanting the services the taxes pay for.
Nobody respects what is going on.

No your childish john and your making an as* out of your self. Ironton use to have it all and Ironton people with old money, they are the reason why everything sucks in Ironton, they wont let anybody come in there to open up new businesses and make Ironton the beautiful town that it use to be. When there is no jobs there is going to be crime.(There is only so much that Jim Carey can do and yes he has morals) Everybody needs to take precautions, that is only normal...if you see something that dont look right call it in. Ironton could had some big businesses to come in, but for some reason they where turned away. NO BUSINESSES...NO JOBS...crime crime
Posted by john_mushenhouse (anonymous) on November 22, 2009 at 2:56 p.m. (Suggest removal)
cochese excuses excuses- other towns are poor but the crime isn't so much. When the people are tired of crime, it will demand the PD to do something. What you said made no sense. ignorance has become the norm in the city.
It is that the people have become so amoral that crime doesn't matter. I don't think so. I think that yes, many of the folks don't know right from wrong, but the majority of Irontonians are good people. Cochese you just seem like a person that refuses to see what is going on. or you are a cop or kin to them.
Why is there more crime in ironton than in other towns.
People have not cared in years. They have hated the rich and see themselves as poor and oppressed. They see themselves as victims so crime is a normal thing. That is just wrong. Being poor isn't an excuse to accept the filth ironton has become. The real law abiding folks need to take control back of this town and shut the mouths of crybabies whiners making excuses when they can't do the job. When they see wrong as ok.
Wrong is wrong and it needs to stop. Who would want to live in Ironton now. Don't leave this town to these amoral people who have don't care about the quality of life.
Carey says - There is crime here. I can't do anything about it. You all take precautions now. I hope my check doesn't bounce.
That is what he is saying.
I say for him to do his job.

It is plain to see how the ironton PD handled the drug problem. They do nothing. Armed robberies seems to be heading in the same direction. it is time to care.
Armed robberies - innocent people could be shot. But its ok the PD has excuses and most people don't see what is wrong with not caring or not seeing crime as bad.
How would it be if a family was eating and the gun went off. I am sure that would help the kids . At least ironton gets a show with the meal now.
Until people start to care ironton is left with those who don't care, don't try and see wrong as ok. The town has gone amoral. people don't know right from wrong. While planting a few flowers is nice and makes the paper, the people need to demand more. Unless they don' see a reason to. of course they can say not enough money or hard to catch a guy. It happened at 6 at night. Surely if the PD cared, they can start preventing this. Why don't the people seem to care. For years ironton has been going on business as usual. The harlots, the gambling and now drugs. This is a horrible way of life. I am sure people really don't care as long as they get their cheese, CAO doctors and WIC to trade in. We all know that food stamps and wic stuff is being sold. This filth as become ingrained as a way of life.
People complain about not buying local. Why should any risk their own life to buy when they can travel to a safer place with cheaper prices. Ironton has really gone to the riff raft with those in charge no longer caring if they can't line their pockets.
More time and energy seemed to be spent on Rist instead of drugs and armed robbery. I guess carey just needs to be interested in something.

What I meant was if places had cameras, they could get idiots that think everybodies possessions is theirs..Also let one of the idiots come to my house my 357 may hurt just a tad...People quit fighting and everyone get together and help take care of business..IPD can do just what they can do..As for Carey,he is the "THE MAN" so all the trash talk is thrown at him...Bosses are always put down...

The fact that it was hard to get by in the 30's and it is hard to get by now is about the only similarity thier is between the two.
In the 30's most people were basically "good" people.
Now we are just plain overpowered by the "bad" people.
It would be nice if it were not so here, but I forsee no
major change with our law enforcement to deal with the
situation here.

OK people of Lawrence Co...it's time to "man up" and quit relying so much on the PD. Keep a loaded shotgun by your front door, get an alert dog, get to know your neighbors and look out for them, pay attention to who is coming and going in your neighborhood and at what hours. Wonder how many people in these business places had cell phones with which they could have taken a photo of the fleeing vehicle?

Good Morning
For those of you that are taking my posts with a grain of salt, let me put it this way and then I am done commenting on this one.
I was completely homeless in Columbus, Ohio for seven months. No car, friends, or family, living on the streets in 1997. I hope I never have to live that way again as I now have a wonderful home and a wonderful landlord.
Thing is, I felt safer then when I was living on the streets of Columbus than I do now when I have to venture outside on the streets of Ironton. I just pray that nothing bad will happen to me or see it happen to someone else everytime I go out.
This is a very small town and I would be able to stomach 1-2 robberies or violence a month. My roots are here and I intend to stay in Ironton until I die. I guess I miss the 50's and 60's when the door could be left unlocked almost all of the time. I see no solution at present and I know that I cannpot live in the past.
Let me say this.
Enjoy life here,be happy, continue to smile, but do not let your guard down. Have a plan if something should occur, and most of all, HAVE A GOOD DAY.
I'm done.

To john_mushenhouse if you know so much why not use your ability to have all the comments you do. Put it to use where you can be heard or tell the city how you feel. Do you think Ironton is the only city in the United States with the problem of drugs?

Michael,I appreciate your comments and read others. Everyone has the right to express their own opinions. There are those who if you don't agree with them usually have to be nasty. We all live in this world and if people could just get along just think what this place would be like. I agree that these people that break the law should be punished to the full extent of the law. They know what they are doing and the judges give them a slap on the wrist. what is this teaching young people, that it is alright to rob, steal and kill for what they want. Give them punishment they won't forget. People need to get over this feel sorry for me. They make their own choices.

whats wrong with everyone all i hear is people from the town that i grew up in pointing the finger at someone else. i lived in ironton until i was 21 at which point i joined the military and have since only been back to visit. no matter where i am at i still miss ironton i love that town. i am a cop in the military and have to say even the crime rate on military installations has rose to unpresidented levels its a sad state for the economy, america and the world. as a cop i feel compeled to give some advice the worst part about my job is that i cannot do anything for anyone until the crime has happened, that eats at me i wish i could be everywhere at once but cops are not super heros. the best advice i can give is take the concealed carry classes, carry a firearm but dont break the law by carry a concealed weapon without the card because then you are no better than the criminals at which you are protecting yourself from. something we do on base is arrange town hall meetings and have training to teach people ways they can assist the police. without the proper information we can not do anything to help. you can give a description of a white male in a green truck but cops cannot pull over every green truck with a white male as the operator. so ask the police how you can help, arrange nieghborhood watch, hold town hall meetings, ask for crime analysis or do them yourself, if you see someone peeking through your nieghbors window dont confront the individual stay out of sight and call the police and keep an eye on the individual and relay that information to the dispatcher. well i hope this helps irotnon and i hate the fact that this town has started to head in this direction. god speed and goodluck...

I was listening to the scanner during both of the 2 nights and the robberies.
The robber used a different stolen truck each night. In one of the situations, the robber was in stolen truck and went through a drive through window. Truck was found an hour or 2 later abandoned. Suspect had hoodie over his head and employee was young and scared. That is where the description must start. If the young employee saw very little - they have very little to go on.
At the carryout - he again used a stolen truck - which again was found abandoned an hour or 2 later. Adult witnesses were able to describe the truck but the hoodie/bandana over his head made it hard to give a great description.
Unless the police were sitting inside or parked on the business parking lot, how could they have prevented any of the robberies. Mr Mush for brains - that question is for you since you are so critical. Tell us exactly what the police should do to cover several hundred locations all at once.

I will tell you what this guy robbing places needs. He needs to walk into a business where the owner has a conceiled carry permit and is packing. Someone that will call his bluff and then pop him.
Some people on here have made comments like "bring back public hangings".....while some have downgraded these remarks I will assure you that if they were brought back the crime rates would drop considerably. And we would save unheard of amounts of tax dollars keeping their worthless hearts beating on our watch and dollar.

Get off of the computer at the precinct and patrol the streets so you can be seen. People cannot see you when your patrol car is on the other side of the floodwall being examined by the dentist.
