HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall Thundering Herd is going green.
Well, it’s not that the Herd isn’t concerned about the environment, but in this case going green refers to their helmets.
Marshall head coach Mark Snyder said the team will wear green helmets all season starting Saturday when the Herd opens the season at home with Division I-AA power Southern Illinois at 4:30 p.m.
Players got their first look at the helmets Thursday as they wore them to practice.
“The players loved them last year when we wore them and we want to start a new era of Marshall football and start it with a new helmet,” said Snyder.
Marshall wore green helmets in 1985, but switched to white helmets with a green block “M.”
Last season the players were surprised with green helmets before the Houston game and responded with a 37-23 upset of the Cougars.
Marshall also wore the green helmets in the season finale against Tulsa and just missed pulling off the upset before losing 38-35.
Ticket Office
The Marshall ticket office will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Gate A ticket booth at Edwards’ Stadium will open at 12:30 p.m. and the three remaining ticket booths will begin selling tickets at 2:30. Stadium games for admittance will open at 3 p.m.
Tickets may also be purchased by calling 1-800-THE-HERD or visiting the athletic website HerdZone.com
All Marshall students must enter the stadium through Gate F. Students without a ticket prior to the game must present a valid student ID to be admitted.
