Employees with Komatsu Solid Rock Construction spend Wednesday tearing down the old Central School located along South Fifth and Sixth Streets in Ironton.
Central School demolished
District plans to sell the reclaimed property as residential lots

IRONTON — Work to demolish Central School should be completed today.
The demolition started with asbestos abatement, which is already completed. Crews began tearing down the building Wednesday.
“It should be on the ground by (Thursday),” Dean Nance, superintendent of Ironton City Schools, said.
Originally an elementary school, the building was most recently used for a Head Start program from the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization and Ironton’s preschool program.
Once the building is demolished and the site is returned to usable property, the school district plans to sell the property as residential lots. The project is funded 73 percent by the State of Ohio, Nance said.

Ah yes. Exactly what Ironton needs. More empty residential lots. Perfect!

What else are they to do with this thing, no one wanted to buy it. If it wasn't torn down it would most likely be a rats nest and a place for pill heads to hang out and destroy others lives. I support Dean Nance's efforts and I believe our new schools are quite an impovement over what we had!!!
