Two charged in pot growing operation

Published Sunday, February 7, 2010

SOUTH POINT — Two South Point residents face felony charges after the discovery of an indoor marijuana growing operation.

Steven Preston, 58, and Sharon Preston, 32, both of 595 County Road 15, South Point, are facing charges that include trafficking in marijuana, marijuana cultivation, marijuana possession and possession of criminal tools, according to a release from the county prosecutor’s office.

The operation was uncovered by Lawrence County law enforcement on Thursday after a search warrant was executed.

At the County Road 15 residence police found three areas in a basement used for growing marijuana and included an automatic timer system that included a small irrigation system.

The Lawrence Drug/Major Crimes Task Force located marijuana plants, grow lights, potting soil, grow pots, pruners, a drying device and magazines on growing marijuana, the release states. Also $4,736 in cash was seized.

Involved in the investigation were the drug task force, the sheriff and the prosecutor.

ONE PLANT! i bet this drug sting will put a huge dent in the drug problem in lawrence county.

How come Law Enforcement can find a hidden grow room but not a clinic operating out in the open in broad daylight? The weed heads aren't the problem here. It's the people, young and old alike who, run out of their pain meds they get from any "legal clinic" in the tri-state. Then they rob, steal, or do any one of the things you see in the police blotter to get their next fix. Something smells funny here and it isn't weed. By the way, Why is it illegal? Who is the victim?

all joking aside , hdm , anyone that does the indoor growing thing in one way or another connected all other drugs and/or drug dealers. so this was a direct hit to the problem. Phulquemawl, The reason the pain clinics still exsist is that there still leagle. that wont be for long either. all of this has to happen in due process & wont be as fast as we like. The constitution is working against us in these matters but keep in mind it was wrote by men that had no clue what we was going to be dealing with 230 years later. there will be amendments to handle this ... count on that.

I agree with Phulquemawl pretty much on everything he said. I grew up around pot smokers all my life and 99% of them are hard working people who have nothing to do with pain meds. Lawrence Co. Needs to worry about the pill heads out here breaking into peoples home and stealing not pot smokers who are growing some dope in their basements. They'll never get rid of the pain clincs these pharmuctical company's make to much money from these pill heads so there not going to back any politican who wants to pass legislation against them. Leave the pot smokers alone lawrence Co. get rid of the pill heads.

Believe it or not many benefit from the little green herb and are much much safer with the use of it than with the cocktail of drugs they will put you on legally to slowly kill and helplessly addict you. I personally know some whom have disabilities and wound up discovering a much better quality of life by going to the "all natural" alternative. Some even cutting those dangerous meds ( you know the ones you see on tv everyday being sued for deaths and other serious health issues) down by half or better, some even completely eliminating them. They find they are not mindless drooling zombies who have to rely on others so much to help in day to day life. Pain killers are proven to damage the liver, slowly killing the taker. Muscle relaxants atrophy vital organs including the heart and brain. So over the issue of legality it seems it is a question of some form of "quality of life". Here please take these potentially lethal narcotics but don't you dare smoke and be able to function, to think, to remember yesterday, last week, or your childs 10th bday. Let us charge you outrageous prices for medications and tell you if you can't afford their exhuberant prices then welcome to suffering the rest of your life. Curl into a litle ball and wait for death to take the pain but don't you dare live, enjoy life, and function as any mornal person would by smoking a little harmless grass.

soundbyte you get it. Falinrok, pepsi causes uphoria in the way of caffeine. Do you rank caffeine with hydrocodone? Just because the gov't says one drug is ok and another isn't doesn't make it so. Big business runs this country not the people. you are just another sheep. it's so sad

Alcohol and pills cause way more trouble than marijuana. The only thing that is wrong with pot is that it is illegal. More politicians should come out of the closet, others should try inhaling.

pot is as bad as alcohol, but they should legalize it or make alcohol illegal, one is as bad as the other. i smoked pot back in the 70's and you can't tell me that you can stay in control of everything while high on pot, if you think you can your just fooling your self. when it comes to driving your reaction time is just as slow it is with alcohol.

ALL I WANT TO DO NOW IS KICK BACK AND RELAX AND MAYBE LISTEN TO SOME JOESPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. EVERYBODY MUST GET STONED!!!
