Local Democrats kick off 2010 campaign
Published Sunday, June 6, 2010
IRONTON — Local Democrats, joined by Gov. Ted Strickland’s brother Roger, kicked off the 2010 campaign at Ruby's Banquet Hall in Ironton on Saturday.
The kick-off event in Ironton was part of a statewide launch to Ohio Democrats’ coordinated campaign in 2010, termed “the Fight for Ohio's Future.”
This effort is a joint effort between the Ohio Democratic Party, Organizing for America and all Democratic candidates and committees.
More than 150 canvasses and kick-off events were held across the state.
In every corner of Ohio, Democratic volunteers went door-to-door, talking with voters about the election and seeking support.
At the kick-off event, Roger Strickland gave local volunteers an inside look into the 2010 campaign and expressed his views about the importance of helping to elect the Democratic ticket in November.
“This election will be a choice between Ohio values and Wall Street values,” said Roger Strickland. “On Wall Street, they value trade deals with China and Mexico that send Ohio jobs overseas. They value profits at the expense of Ohio's families. But in Ohio, we value hard work over corruption. And we value a strong middle class over corporate greed.”
“Today, Democrats have begun the fight,” Strickland continued. “It's a fight for Ohio's jobs, Ohio's families and Ohio's schools. It's a fight for Ohio's future.”

We've lost way more jobs since Strickland was elected. He promised southern Ohio the Ironton/Russell Bridge and the completion of the Chesapeake/Proctorville bypass.
As you can see, he does not deliver on his promises.

Strickland is a liar and more corrupt than any Gov we have had!

There was just an article in this paper stating that our region is doing well relative to other areas when it comes to unemployment. Yes, there were the standard rebuttals...the number on welfare, the wages and the methodology behind the statistic itself. There was a follow-up commentary by the tribune stating that, although they'd rather see the methodology behind the unemployment statistic be improved to more accurately depict real-life living conditions, that we should still be happy that we're performing well based on the report. In other words, if we were at the bottom of that list, the list of unemployment statistics, our real-life living conditions here would be worse...whatever you think they are now. More than likely, if you're doing OK you probably think we're doing ok (but maybe you want to pay less taxes).
Given these recent observations taken from the tribune's reporting and opinion, I again think it's good to have Ted Strickland or his people here in our area. I think he's doing a good job given the hard times the entire nation is facing. We as voters can't be swayed by voices who'd simply rather sway you to their side. If anyone had a way to flip the switch and make the situation better overnight, it would have already been done. Ted Strickland is doing a good job with the hand we've all been dealt in recent years. If you think the country is in bad shape and/or going in the wrong direction, I'd remind you of the years we had under Bush. It was the trajectory from those years that put us here...where we've been climbing back from.
Nice article too, by the way.

I think Strickland is a nice guy, but hasn't been impressive as governor when the tough times came.
I've tried to figure out why, and I guess he is not very smart, or is above his level of competence in the State House. In Congress, well, anyone can duck responsibility there.
What was up with doubling the number of inmates working at the Governor's mansion, and not taking care of supervision?
Why did his nominated Safety Director(not confirmed, as the Strickland administration forgot to send her nomination to the Ohio Senate) stop an OHP investigation into these doings?
Was a good faith attempt carried out to keep NCR in Ohio, or did they just watch them move to Georgia?
Why did he come out against the casinos when southwest Ohio wanted them, and then change his mind when his budget needed shoring up?
Again, nice guy, liked him the numerous times I've encountered him. Just not sure he's up to the job. I know they are going to use the corporate greed angle cause Kasich worked for Lehman Bros. in Columbus. Easier than defending an implodiing budget and job loss. Blame Bush all you want, Strickland's the guy at the top in Ohio, and will have to bear the brunt of it.

Congress, well, anyone can duck responsibility there.
----------------------------------------------
It's even easier to duck responsibility behind a desk at the Fox news channel.
At least it's easier to duck that than it is to hide the fact that you were paid more than a HALF MILLION dollars a year as managing director of the Columbus investment banking division of Lehman Brothers. Investment banking....hmmm...where have I heard that in recent history. I remember. It was when Bush had to give those guys $700 billion in bailout money not long before he left office, right?
Of course, as a true Leader Kasich must have stood up and taken some responsibility. I mean, he was "Managing Director" out of Lehman's Columbus office. They paid him over a HALF MILLION dollars a year for something...right? So, cue the leadership quote from Kasich...............................
"Blaming me for Lehman Brothers is like blaming a car dealer in Zanesville for the collapse of General Motors." - John Kasich
What? He takes no responsibility?? Wasn't he the "guy at the top" at least in the Columbus office???
Is he really saying that the guys at Lehman paid him no mind but still paid him over a HALF MILLION dollars a year??
Come on John Kasich! You're not even living up to the titles of your own books. If, as you write, "Courage is Contagious" then step up to the plate and show some. Take due responsibility for your connection with Lehman. Ohio doesn't want to go bankrupt like they did. Your second book is "Stand for Something: The Battle for America's Soul" but it looks like your TRUE belief system would be more accurately be depicted as "Fall for Anything: The Battle for America's Control."

Since I already know he won't step up, here's the real story. In the spirit of partisanship, which is shown here so often and so freely, I'll even go ahead and pick this clip to do the job...
