"The key to the game was the offensive line. They did a heck of a job," Green coach Dan McDavid said. "That was a big win for us. We played well. We’re getting better."

The blocking up front generated 303 rushing yards led by Brad Bainer with 224 yards on 17 carries. Alex Poe ran 19 times for 100 yards while Jeff Moore added 63 yards on eight tries.

" The starting backfield ran hard, and Rick Perkins played several different positions and did a great job at all of them," said McDavid.

The defense shut down the Trimble running game with just 54 yards on 31 attempts. Quarterback Bobby Trace was 13 of 18 for 137 yards and an interception.

Willis led the defense with 15 tackles, and Moore and Perkins at linebacker had 11 tackles each. Steve Thomas had three sacks from his defensive end spot and Chris Williams recovered two fumbles.

"We got pretty good pressure on the quarterback," said McDavid.

Green, 1-2, just out to a 13-0 lead as Bainer ran 47 and 17 yards for touchdowns. Perkins kicked a conversion.

Trimble, 0-3, got a a touchdown on a 14-yard pass from Bobby Trace to Justin Guinther. The same duo hooked up for the conversion.

But Poe broke free on a 55-yard touchdown run with 4:56 left in the quarter and also ran for the conversion as the lead went to 21-8.

A flea-flicker pass from Guinther to Faires went 30 yards for a touchdown and Kyle Andrews run on the extra points cut the deficit to 21-16.

But Green got some breathing distance as Poe had a 1-yard run and it was 27-16 at the half.

Trimble got close one more time on a 4-yard run by Kyle Andrews and Trace’s kick made it 27-23.

Poe got his second 1-yard touchdown run and then Bainer took over with a 57-yard scoring burst and Alex Hart added the conversion. Bainer then had an 18-yard touchdown gallop and it was 47-23.

Hart capped the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run with 4:03 to play.
