Collins’ 69 leads field

Collins, the former All-Ohio golfer for the Ironton Fighting Tigers, opened up his Ohio State college career with an outstanding round on the first day of the team’s qualifier Tuesday.

Collins, the former All-Ohio golfer for the Ironton Fighting Tigers, opened up his Ohio State college career with an outstanding round on the first day of the team’s qualifier Tuesday.
Collins fired a 69 to lead all OSU golfers five five strokes. Competition will continue the rest of the week as coach Jim Brown determines his fall traveling squad.
Junior Mike Austin shot a 74, sophomore David Wagonseller 77, and junior Chris Emanuel 81 to round out the top four.
Flyers tie East Carter
The St. Joe Flyers battled the East Carter (Ky.) Raiders to a scoreless tie Tuesday in an overtime shootout.
The Flyers, 4-0-2, travels to Rose Hill at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
St. Joe volleyball wins
SCIOTOVILLE – The St. Joe Female Flyers rallied from one game down to beat the Portsmouth East Lady Tartans in volleyball action Monday, 7-15, 15-9, 15-1.
Melissa Payne scored 11 points and Erin Roush was right behind with 10 points to lead the Female Flyers.
Jeannie Barron , Natalie Mathis, and Stephanie McKnight had 5 points each while Stacie Sydow rounded out the scoring with one point.
St. Joe hosts South Gallia at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
In the reserve match, East won 15-2, 15-7.
Loretta Holtzapfel scored 4 points, Dani Malone and Sarah Mittendorf 2 each, and Becky Nelson one points for St. Joe.
