The Jolly Old Elf himself couldn’t have done a better job in bringing Christmas joy and magic to the city and to all those who watched with heartfelt smiles of happiness.

We could all learn a little something from the extraordinairy example set by the IBA members. The selfless, tireless effort these men and women devoted to a parade -an event with the express purpose of bringing a ray of sunshine into others’ lives -gives us a first-and look at the true Christmas spirit.

The members and volunteers weren’t paid to put on the show, but they did it anyway. Their only compensations are in the form of the smiles they delivered and the pride taken in a job well done.

These people deserve our thanks and our gratitude for being an inspiration in a time when we can all use a little bit of childlike wonder in our lives. For, as anyone standing along the sidelines during the peak of Tuesday’s parade knows, that’s exactly what we were given.

More than merely giving them our thanks, we should follow the IBA’s example and volunteer to spread a little bit of Christmas spirit close to home. That’s definitely what the season is all about.
