The Chesapeake Panthers won three and lost one in a series of wrestling matches Saturday at Spring Valley High School.

Not only did the team go 3-1, but the Panthers had five wrestlers post 3-1 records on the day. Another three wrestlers were a perfect 4-0.

"We wrestled pretty well, especially the guys who all went 3-1 or 4-0," Panthers coach Phil Davis said. "(Doug) Wiley wrestled well and so did (Brian) Marshall."

Wiley was 4-0 in the 189-pound class while Marshall was 3-1 in the 214 division.

Seth Damron was 4-0 at 103 and Donald Duncan 4-0 in the 119 division.

Finishing 3-1 were Carl Evans at 112, Steven Smith at 130, Brad Smith at 145, and Matt McDonald at 152.

Posting 2-2 records were Chester Collins at 125, Ed Neel at 135, Adam Roush at 160, and Josh Scarberry at 171.

Todd Marcum (140), was 1-3 and heavyweight Isaac Best 0-4.

As a team, Chesapeake beat Ashland, Ky., 70-6, South Point 54-27, and Spring Valley 54-27. The Panthers lost to Sheldon Clark, Ky., 49-27.

"We’re really young this year, so this was a good experience for our kids," said Davis. "It helps to have a full squad. The kids are working hard and we’ll just try to get better and better each time out."

Chesapeake will wrestle at Gallipolis Thursday, Dec. 30
