Susan J. McComas of South Point has been named director of the Ceredo-Kenova, Wayne and Fort Gay libraries in West Virginia.

Ms. McComas previously was employed as a training specialist with the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. During that time, she earned a master’s degree from Marshall in adult and technical education. She also has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Denison University.

Arch Richmond, CFP, ChFC, CLU and co-owner of Financial Reviews Inc., of Ironton, recently attended an estate-planning seminar in Columbus.

Topics included lifetime transfers, revocable living trusts, charitable giving strategies, business valuation for estates and succession planning for the business owner.

Richmond is a certified financial planner specializing in retirement and estate planning strategies utilizing the comprehensive financial planning methodology.

Firstar Corp. recently was ranked as the No. 1 bank based on projected 2001 performance measures by the U.S. Equity Research division of Warburg Dillon Read LLC.

Warburg Dillon Read included 35 of the top U.S. banks in the ranking, which was published in the company’s Bank Profit Quarterly report. The publication said, "Firstar is our new fundamental star, based on our 2001 estimates."

In other Firstar news, the bank’s home mortgage division recently announced a new loan program that will enable customers to borrow up to 90 percent of the value on their primary residence, second homes and investment properties.

The program allows qualifying customers to receive up to 90 percent of the value of these properties, less any outstanding property liens, in cash. Typically, other lenders only allow cash-back loans equal to 80 percent of the value of the home or property. Also, second homes or investment properties usually do not qualify for this type of loan.

The new refinance program is being offered at all Firstar locations in Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Tennessee and Arizona.

The investment firm A.G. Edwards, which has an office in Ashland, Ky., recently was named one of the 100 best companies to work for in America by Fortune magazine.

A.G. Edwards is one of three retail brokerage firms to make the 1999 list and was ranked 37th overall. This year’s list is published in the magazine’s Jan. 10 edition.

King’s Daughters Medical Center and the Ashland Area YMCA in Ashland, Ky., will offer a smoking cessation program beginning Tuesday, Jan. 11, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the YMCA, 3232 Old 13th St.

The free 24-week program will meet at the same time for one hour each Tuesday at the YMCA.

Participants will receive a free six-week aerobic session from the YMCA.

Nicotine replacement therapy and group support are featured portions of the program, with workbooks provided at no charge. Participants are responsible for purchasing their nicotine patches and gum.

Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky., has added audiology and speech therapy services through a venture with the Kentucky Easter Seals Society/Cardinal Hill Healthcare System, parent organization for Geiger Speech and Hearing. OLBH assumed responsibility for all Geiger services on Dec. 16.

OLBH continues to serve Geiger’s existing patients. Audiology services remain at the Carter Avenue location, and speech therapy services will relocate to the hospital’s Vitality Center.

As part of the agreement between OLBH and Geiger, OLBH has assumed all Geiger therapy contracts, including those with several home health care agencies and other hospitals.
