PORTSMOUTH – No one could have blamed the St. Joe Flyers for feeling down.

The Flyers were on the road playing a talented Portsmouth Notre Dame team that had beaten them on St. Joe’s home floor. And went starters Eric Waginger and Bub Waginger went to the bench the second quarter with foul trouble, things really looked down.

But up stepped Matt Frazer.

Needing a pick-me-up, Frazer delivered with 22 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals as St. Joe beat the Titans 60-42.

"Matt Frazer stepped up and played huge. We stepped up and handled the task well," Flyers coach Kevin Sheridan said.

"Bill Dressel and Andy Stack did a good job, too. Stack doesn’t score a lot, but he does the little things. He plays his role great. He did a good job on Dugan."

Adam Dugan finished with 15 points to lead Notre Dame, but he had one five the second half. Nick Rutman added 14 points for the Titans.

"They’re talented. I was concerned going in there," said Sheridan.

Dressel and Eric Waginger each had 11 points. Eric Waginger also had seven rebounds and Bub Waginger four steals.

Balance was the key the first quarter with St. Joe taking a 14-12 lead as Bub and Eric Waginger and Frazer had four points each.

With the Wagingers out, Frazer had seven points and Dressel four to help extend the lead to 27-22 at the break.

At the start of the second half, Eric Waginger hit a 3-pointer and Bub Waginger had a basket as the lead quickly grew to 32-22. Frazer had eight points in the quarter and it was 42-30 at the end of the stanza.

"From that point out we just controlled the ball game. We just spread the floor and Matt and Bill just took it to the basket. Matt did a great job," said Sheridan. "The first couple of minutes of the third quarter set the tone."

Stack and Dressel scored five points each the fourth quarter and the Flyers were 8-of-14 from the line as they won their sixth straight game.
