Chesapeake – Chesapeake continued its torrid streak by drubbing the Minford Falcons 74-50 Tuesday night.
Following a pair of 30-point blowouts, the Panthers took their game to the next level by shooting 50 percent from the field (26-52) and 75 percent from the line (20-27).
"We had a nice balanced attack tonight," said Panthers coach Norm Persin. "Minford has a good team. They beat Wheelersburg and Lucasville Valley so you know they can play with the tough teams."
Zeb Best led the Panthers, 15-2, with a game-high 16 points. Bobby Barbour and Anthony Delimpo had 13 points and Andy Clark added 11.
Minford was led by Eli Parks with 11 points, Aaron Montgomery chipped in 11. The Falcons drop to 9-8.
"Anthony is sick, Bobby Barbour is sick, I’m just hopeful we can get this stuff over with before the tournament starts," Persin said.
The boys sectional tournament drawings are Sunday in Jackson.
In much the same manner of its previous two games, Chesapeake appeared ready to run away and hide. Barbour buried a 3-pointer just seconds into the game and a lay up from Adam Pemberton put the Panthers up 9-2.
A pair of fast break layups from Clark and Josh Waugh upped the Panthers lead to 19-10 in the first quarter.
While the Falcons didn’t step things up from the field, they did catch up from the line making 9-15 in the second quarter and cut the lead to four points several times.
Ahead 37-32 late in the half, Barbour hit a layup and Clark tipped in his own miss with four seconds left making it 41-32.
Barbour hit a 12-footer and a 10-footer and Delimpo hit a couple of close jumpers to give the Panthers a 49-38 lead with 3:26 left in the third. Best hit three free throws and Matt White made a layup to make it 54-40 at the end of the third.
"Zeb played pretty good and we needed that with Delimpo not feeling well. Those two are pretty hard to handle in there together," said Persin.
Minford hit just five field goals in the second half and the Panthers were able to slowly add to their lead throughout the final period.
Chesapeake is off Friday and then travels to River Valley on Saturday night for a non-conference game.
