PEDRO – South Webster’s 3-point shooting was too much for the Coal Grove Lady Hornets to handle as the Lady Jeeps won the Division III sectional game 64-27.

Lindsay Van Deusen led the Jeeps with 21 points on the strength of five 3-pointers and South Webster hit 11 3-pointers on the night.

"They have a couple of weapons out front that make it tough," said Coal Grove coach Dave Owens. "I can’t fault our effort, we came out and played hard. We have all year."

Van Deusen’s backcourt mate that Owens referred to is Brooke Hughes who added 17 points including three 3-pointers.

Coal Grove was led by Cassie Ball and Courtney Coffman with five points each.

Sarah Patterson hit a layup that put the Hornets up 2-0 but the Jeeps promptly went on a 12-1 run. Hughes hit a 16-footer and a 3-pointer making it 12-3.

The Hornets kept hanging around and cut the Jeeps lead to 14-9 late in the first quarter. Jessica Bryant, Ball and Desiree Butler each scored.

Even though the Hornets were busy turning the ball over 16 times in the first half, they were still hanging around until the end of the half.

Van Deusen hit a long 3-pointer with 42 seconds left and another with 20 seconds left giving the Jeeps a 31-14 halftime lead.

South Webster led 49-22 at the end of three quarters as Van Deusen hit three 3-pointers and a 12-footer in the quarter.
