Lady Vikings notch tournament victory

After going 4-16 in the regular season, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings stepped into Division IV sectional tournament play Wednesday at Alexander High School and came away a winner.

After going 4-16 in the regular season, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings stepped into Division IV sectional tournament play Wednesday at Alexander High School and came away a winner.

The Lady Vikings led all the way as they beat the Hemlock Miller Lady Falcons 51-39. Symmes Valley will now play top-seeded Oak Hill at 1 p.m. Saturday in the sectional title game.

Symmes Valley had three players in double figures led by Jessica Myers with 14 points. Renee Donahoe and Holly Wilson scored 10 points each.

Heather Compston had 14 points to lead Miller.

Keren Bells and Myers each scored four points the first quarter as Symmes Valley took a 14-4 lead.

Compston had six points the second quarter as Miller pulled within 22-21 at the half.

Wilson scored all 10 of her points the third quarter as Symmes Valley pulled away to a 36-29 lead.

Myers had six points and the Vikes converted 5 of 8 from the line the fourth quarter as Symmes Valley improved its record to 6-15.
