Panthers, Dragons top OVC selections

After winning an unprecedented fifth straight Ohio Valley Conference championship, the Chesapeake Panthers again led the All-OVC selections.

After winning an unprecedented fifth straight Ohio Valley Conference championship, the Chesapeake Panthers again led the All-OVC selections.
Adam Pemberton, a 5-foot-10 senior, and a pair of juniors, 6-5 Anthony Delimpo and 5-9 Bobby Barbour, were all named to the first team.
Delimpo averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds a game, Barbour 15 points an outing, and Pemberton 7.0 points, 6.0 assists, and 5.5 steals.
Andy Clark, a 6-foot senior, was special mention.
Norm Persin racked up another Coach of the Year award as he led the Panthers to the league title and an 18-2 regular season mark.
The Fairland Dragons had two first team picks in 6-4 senior center Jay Capper and 5-10 senior guard Aaron Swanton.
Capper averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds and Swanton 10 points and 4.2 assists.
Josh Dunfee, a 6-foot junior, was honorable mention.
The South Point Pointers landed 5-9 senior guard B. J. Ferrell and 6-foot junior forward Jarred Perdue on the first team.
Ferrell averaged 14 points, 4.1 assists, and 2.9 steals. Perdue’s numbers were 14.4 points and 8.5 rebounds.
Shane Holsinger, a 6-foot sophomore guard, was honorable mention.
Heading the Rock Hill Redmen selections were first teamers Brent McCoy, a 5-10 senior, and Brian Tennant, a 6-4 senior.
McCoy scored at a 17.0 scoring average and 3.0 assists. Tennant had 10 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists a game.
Honorable mention was 6-foot senior Tanner Heaberlin.
Coal Grove 6-foot senior Dean Mader and 6-3 junior Ryan Young were named to the first team.
Mader was at 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while Young scored at a 9.5 clip and had 5.0 rebounds per game.
Jason Adams, a 6-foot junior, was honorable mention.
The Fairland Lady Dragons won the girls OVC championship under Jack Harris who was named the Coach of the Year.
Harris not only led Fairland to the league title, but guided the Lady Dragons to a best-ever 17-3 regular season record.
Leading Fairland’s first team members were 5-10 junior Ashley Harris, daughter of the head coach, 5-11 sophomore Jean Diamond, and 5-6 point guard Brooke Fisher.
Harris’ numbers were 11.9 points and 10.0 rebounds, Diamond 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, and Fisher 8.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.
Jessica Higgins, a 5-8 senior, was honorable mention.
Rock Hill was 16-4 on the year and 5-9 senior Michelle Matkins and 5-8 junior Mandy McDonie were first team choices.
Matkins put up 19 points a game, grabbed 6.3 rebounds, and handed out 3.5 assists. McDonie averaged 14.0 points and played strong defense.
Amanda Mays, a 5-6 junior, was honorable mention.
The Chesapeake Lady Panthers were represented on the first team by 5-9 senior Kati Fuller and 5-7 junior Erin Sutphin.
Fuller had a 19.2 scoring average to go along with 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.8 steals. Sutphin was at 15.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and shot 31 percent from 3-point range.
Lindsey Stiltner, a 5-5 sophomore, was honorable mention.
South Point’s 5-1 sophomore Noel Mains and 5-8 senior Whitney Morrison were first team selections.
Mains had 20.4 points, 5.0 assists, and 5.0 steals a game.
Nikki Lewis, a 5-7 senior, was honorable mention.
Cassie Ball, a 5-8 senior, and Desiree Butler, a 5-6 junior, were first team choices.
Ball averaged 10.1 points and 11.4 rebounds while Butler had 9.0 points and 4.3 rebounds an outing.
