This weekend, the Ironton Business Association will aid the Easter Bunny in scattering more than 2,000 candy-filled, colorful plastic Easter eggs on the Lawrence County Courthouse lawn.
But, the event says much more than the obvious – that the IBA sponsors events for children.
Instead, this event is a testament to both the continued diligence of the IBA’s efforts and the organization’s true community spirit.
Ironton has suffered hard economic blows especially after last year’s announcements that every industrial business in the city would close. It’s not easy to bounce back from such devastation.
In fact, many times, it’s simply easier to fall into despair and wonder what to do next.
The IBA, however, never once wavered in the face of adversity.
Despite losing businesses and potential income, the organization banded together and kept their pledge to the residents and business community of Ironton. They have continued with their annual events and taken on new challenges. Without fail, using events such as this weekend’s egg hunt and others, the group has not stopped finding ways to bring people - potential customers – downtown.
Residents, business leaders and government officials would do well to remember the IBA’s efforts by showing support for or volunteering to assist with the annual egg hunt Saturday morning.
It’s one of the ways we can all say thank you to this group for all they have done and continue to do for the city.
