Muriel Clark

June 7, 1916-Aug. 6, 2001

Muriel E. Clark, 85, of Coal Grove died Monday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was born June 7, 1916 at Leatherwood, Ohio, the daughter of the late John C. and Fonnie McGuire Maddy.

She was employed for several years at Huntington Trust and Savings Bank in Huntington and she was a member of Sharon Baptist Church of Ironton.

She also was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joseph Hanshaw

Nov. 15, 1952-Aug. 4, 2001

Joseph Martin "Joe" Hanshaw, 48, of Mason, formerly of Ironton, died Saturday at Kenwood Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati.

The Atlantic City, N.J., native was born Nov. 15, 1952, the son of the late Marquerite Hanshaw.

He was the husband of Tammy Shope Hanshaw, who survives.

The U.S. Air Force veteran was an employee of Ironton DMI, correction officer at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, and retired in 1997, as a sergeant from Warren Correctional Institute in Lebanon. He was a volunteer for the Mason Fire Department and an EMT. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mason and a member of the Mason Masonic Lodge F&AM and Scottish Rite of the Valley of Cincinnati.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Strawn officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Masonic and Scottish Rites at 6:30 p.m. by the Ironton Masonic Lodge.

Vernon Gollihugh

MIAMISBURG – Vernon Gollihugh, 92, of Miamisburg, formerly of Ohio Furnace and Powellsville, died in Miamisburg.

He was the son of the late Willard and Polly Gollihugh.

He was the husband of Susan Ratliff Gollihugh, who survives.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Gebhart, Schmidt, Parramore Funeral Homes in Miamisburg. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Gladys Smith

Feb. 23, 1909-Aug. 4, 2001

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gladys Mae Pemberton Smith, 92, of Greensboro, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died Saturday at Evergreens Nursing Home in Greensboro.

The Buffalo Creek native was born Feb. 23, 1909, the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Hartwig Pemberton.

She was the wife of the late Hearl N. "Block" Smith.

She was retired from Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Gladye Pemberton Toney; and one brother, Keister Pemberton.

Graveside service was 11 a.m. today at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, Ohio, with Pastor Gordon B. White.
