SOUTH POINT – This was almost the sequel "Scream IV."

While reports say the horror-thriller movie "Scream III" was the last in the series, the Rock Hill Redmen threw a major scare at the South Point Pointers Friday.

The Redmen, only 1-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference, were on the verge of dealing the Pointers a crucial upset loss in their hopes of remaining in the league title chase.

But the Pointers managed to create a happy ending – at least to their liking – as they rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning on a game-winning hit by Justin Eaches to beat the Redmen 7-6.

South Point is now 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the OVC.

Down 6-5 going into the seventh, Shane Holsinger doubled to right and a passed ball sent him to third.

Pinch-hitter Josh Morrison walked, Jared Perdue re-entered to run and stole second, and then Eaches delivered a game-winning two-run single.

South Point went up 1-0 in the first when Shane Fuller started the inning with a double, Jared Waggoner sacrificed him to third, B. J. Belville walked, and Jamie Douglas had a run-scoring single.

The lead was 2-0 after the second as the Pointers got another run.

With one out, Perdue walked, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch.

Rock Hill came back to take the lead with three runs in the top of the third.

Tanner Heaberlin and Derek Malone walked, and Josh Harper singled in Heaberlin. With two outs, Kyle Lewis singled in Malone and J. D. Gore drove in Harper with a base hit.

South Point tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Belville belted a one-out double, Douglas walked, and Patrick Panell hit into a force play at third, but the throw to first in an attempt to get the double play was wild and Douglas scored.

Each team got a run in the fifth.

In the top of the inning, Tyler Virgin had a leadoff double, stole third, and scored on a passed ball.

South Point answered as Waggoner singled to start the inning, stole second, moved up on a ground out, Douglas walked, Panell was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Holsinger had an RBI single.

Rock Hill took a 6-4 lead with two runs in the sixth.

Heaberlin walked, Nathan Litteral walked, and Derek Malone put down a sacrifice bunt, Harper was walked intentionally, but Virgin walked to force home a run.

Lewis then put down a suicide squeeze bunt to score pinch-runner Dave Malone.

The Pointers got within a run in the bottom of the inning when Fuller walked, stole second, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch.

Cremeans got the win as he struck out nine, walked six, and gave up five hits. Harper took the loss as he allowed nine hits, fanned one, but walked nine.

Waggoner and Belville were each 2-3 for the Pointers.
