SOUTH POINT – Tara Layne just kept getting better.

Layne threw a four-hitter on Thursday, pitched a three-hitter early Friday afternoon, and then fashioned her second no-hitter of the season later Friday as she led the South Point Lady Pointers to three wins.

Layne has won all 17 games this season for South Point (17-7).

South Point beat the Wayne Lady Pioneers 4-1 Thursday, blanked the Spring Valley Lady Timberwolves 11-0 early Friday, and then belted the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 19-0 in a five-inning no-hitter by Layne.

Seniors Erica Griffith, Nikki Lewis, and Shannon James were honored in pregame ceremonies before the Spring Valley game.

Whitney Morrison was 2-for-2 and Sarah Baise 2-3 as South Point had seven hits en route to a win over Wayne.

Griffith was 3-3 to lead the Lady Pointers nine-hit attack against Spring Valley. Nekka Mains was 2-4 while Layne had a double.

The Lady Pointers combined nine hits with 12 walks en route to the Ohio Valley Conference win over Coal Grove.

Brandi Thacker was 2-3, Layne was 2-4 with two doubles, Mains went 2-4, and Sarah Stevens 2-5.

South Point finishes 8-4 in the OVC. The Lady Pointers play at Greenup County, Ky., Tuesday, then meet Portsmouth West Wednesday in the Division II sectional finals.
