District little league tourney gets underway

PEDRO – The District 11 tournament is being set at one place, and it’s all at the Rock Hill Little League.

With new lights installed, both the winner and loser brackets will be played at the Rock Hill fields starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday as two local teams – South Point and host Rock Hill – open the tournament.

A total of 17 teams will participate in the tournament from Lawrence and Scioto counties.

Also at 5:30 p.m. Friday will be Fairland and Minford while Portsmouth Clay and West Portsmouth go under the lights at 7:30 p.m.

A full slate of games are scheduled for Saturday.

Lucasville and Wheelersburg get the day started at 12:30 p.m. on one field while Coal Grove and Newville – a combination of New Boston and Sciotoville – play on the second field.

The 3 p.m. games have Chesapeake going against Northwest plus Portsmouth facing the Rock Hill-South Point winner.

At 5:30 p.m., Ironton plays Symmes Valley with Green and South Webster tangling on the second field.

The loser’s bracket will be played Monday with two games at 5:30 p.m. and two more at 7:30.

Only one game will be played Tuesday, July 4, as the Fairland-Minford winner faces the Clay-West Portsmouth winner at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday is an off-day and then play resumes on Thursday with four more games at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Four more games will be played on Friday, July 7, and four games will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., 3:00, 5:30, and 7:30.

The tournament will continue through July 1. The tournament champion will advance to the state tournament.
