CHESAPEAKE – The man accused in the weekend robbery of a Chesapeake gas station faces a Friday arraignment in county court after the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department took him into custody Wednesday.
Ryan Edwards, 25, of 91 Township Road 1090, Proctorville, was brought to the sheriff’s department Wednesday morning after a bail bondsman picked him up in West Virginia for revoking a bond, sheriff’s department investigator Jerry Pendleton said.
"It was my understanding (Wednesday) that his bondsman was contacted by a confidential informant that provided details of his location in West Virginia," Pendleton said. "The bondsman then proceeded to pick him up for bond revocation and brought him to our department."
When Edwards arrived, the department served him with an arrest warrant it had issued in connection with Saturday’s robbery of the Rich Oil station at 900 Rockwood Ave. in Chesapeake.
The alleged robbery took place sometime around 10 p.m., according to sheriff’s deputy Aaron Bollinger’s report.
Store employees were able to give officials a description of the alleged robber’s vehicle and a license plate number, however police patrols were unable to locate the suspect, the report stated.
The alleged robber originally pulled up to a full-serve pump and ordered gasoline, according to a statement from store employee Greg Lambert.
The report stated the man then exited the vehicle after the gas was pumped, entered the store and asked for a pack of cigarettes, then pulled a semi-automatic pistol from his pants pocket and demanding all the store’s money.
The suspect took more than $1,100 and shot the VCR box of the store’s video camera, according to Bollinger’s report.
"When he was brought to us, he was bonded on several charges and we had a warrant issued on him," Pendleton said.
Edwards was out on bond for two charges of burglary that are pending, he said.
Edwards faces current charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery, Pendleton said.
"He will appear in the Lawrence County Municipal Court on Friday for the two most recent charges," he said.
